It's not surprising to see Sony top the list of a "most innovative brand" survey. With creations such as the Walkman, CDs, and Blu-ray, there hasn't been any other company that has left such a footprint in our media-driven pop culture. Consumers haven't forgotten these achievements, as a recent survey revealed that Sony was perceived the most innovative brand beating out the likes of Apple, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
The survey was conducted by branding consultancy Incite. 500 people between the ages of 18 and 65 took part in the British led poll. There were a lot of other big names on the list. Do you want to know what other companies Sony beat out? Check out the top 20 list after the break.

Have you forgotten about Playstation 1?
Getting over 100 million people interested in gaming takes incredible innovation. There would be no Xbox had Sony not introduced Playstation.
This is a pretty weak survey with only 500 people from one country.

There would be no playstation if Nintendo hadn't revived the game industry in the 80's.

Microsoft is not innovative at all, usually they just buy out or copy whatever they like.
I can, however, understand people perception of them being innovative.

True, Microsoft has resigned itself to the sidelines these days, waiting for someone else to innovate so they can copy it. Everything from the Xbox to Vista to the Zune screams "me too". Shameful really.

True, although strictly on the console front they have done some innovative things in the way of bringing hard drives to consoles and pioneering the online gameplay movement on consoles. As you say though, in general (Windows, Zune, etc) there is a lot of copying on their part.
Likewise for Sony though, especially lately. The PS3 really brought nothing innovative to the table, and blu-ray is just an evolution of DVD and launched alongside another product doing virtually the exact same thing. Throughout its history though, Sony has brought forth many new innovations, and copied many things as well...as is true with most of these companies up here.

Ummm you forgot PS2 had an hdd before xbox was even out. Furthermore, putting a hdd in what is essentially a computer is not innovative no matter who did it first. Theres internal memory and memory cards which are all just basic forms of storage.
PS3 has so much innovation what are talking about. Theres the cell, it was the 1st system with hdmi (i think) and name another console that allows you to install mods for games (UT3) AND let them play with mouse and keyboard ala pc stlyle (also UT3), let alone install other operating systems. Even the heat dissipating system was pretty innovative as. The 7 spu's were also quite innovative as no other system is using a similar setup. Even down to six axis. I still sorta know what you mean though. But really we just overlook many of these little innovative things.
