Mysterious countdowns have been aplenty as of late. The last really memorable one was when Siren was unveiled. Now we've got another one; this time it's for Resident Evil 5. Spotted at ResidentEvil.com, this countdown still has over 50 hours to go at the time of this writing. Of course, we don't know what it is for. That's the nature of these mysterious countdowns.
Is there going to be more news on RE5 or is this just the grand opening for the site? Most likely it's the latter, but keep your eyes peeled just in case. We will, too.

Are you talking about the one in the middle top of the main site in the pic? That counter is going up.

this is he countdown for the launch of the news of the bundle for ps3. though this is olny a rumor, the bundle will include a black/red ps3, special edition of re5, comic, a downloadable from the psn store and a replica pistol (not even an airsoft just a collectible) from the game. the xbox 360 will not get the bundle but will get a special edition package for 90 dollars. sadly im not positive on the 360 one

The counter IS counting up, but it starts over when you refresh the page.
The first time I opened the site a boy walked into fram for a minute then walked out. When I refresh he does not come back.

Both counters are just pointless upward counting animations in the flash. Although looking at the bottom of the page it seems someone screwed up the JavaScript, as there's a link to the .js file. On downloading it it contains a link to another flash - http://www.residentevil.com/swf/countdownBP.swf
Although there's no countdown on that either! D'oh.

I wonder if the battery will die in time, or if that's all that the website will show for a few days...

I can see these countdowns wearing thin if all they are doing is counting down to a trailer or some tid-bit of information. If it is 50 hours away to the release of RE5, I will eat my words though.

Actually, the bottom counter is counting down.
Hopefully this game will be good despite the fact it is multiplatform.

Mysterious indeed, dunno what I'm supposed to be looking for with the counter going up and the boy going back and fourth :S and the javascript at the bottom leading to another one. Lost TBH.

Perhaps I'm looking to much into this but maybe it isn't counting to zero. Maybe its counting to 99:99:99 or something.
Or its counting to a time that is important to the Resident Evil story? Something with some significance. This obviously isn't your typical countDOWN timer, maybe they are thinking outside the box on this one, keep us fans guessing. They are doing a pretty darn good job too.
Or maybe they just screwed up the code and no one has noticed yet.
