Itagaki says Ninja Gaiden Sigma was 'no good'
Ouch. Imitation doesn't equate to flattery, does it? Sigma's director, Yosuke Hayashi, went on record many times about the power of the PS3, and promised more titles for Sony's system. Hayashi noted that "I have heard much criticism of the PS3, but I am confident that Ninja Gaiden Sigma will demonstrate how powerful the PS3 really is." However, will Hayashi ever get a chance to work on PS3 again?
This "subordinate" is getting backhandedly slapped, with the notion of a PS3 port of 360-exclusive Ninja Gaiden II being thrown out of the window. It would "be a loss of face for everyone involved," noted Itagaki.

Having interviewed both Itagaki and Hayashi, let me say that the latter is a far nicer person to be around.

You have to hand it to Itagaki, he can really talk some smack. NG (sigma included ofc) is IMO one of the best action games of all time. From what I've seen of NG2, I'm not convinced he pulled It off again. Right or wrong at least he's got the stones to speak frankly. Oh and for the record he can kiss my. @ss.

Itagaki was probably just mad that you weren't a woman he could harass.

You have to keep in mind though that it is becoming tradition to trash your last title, regardless of the quality. I firmly believe it is the intention of the developers to create hype about their new game.
They want customers to think, "Wow, if they think that last game was crap, then their new game must be mind blowing!"
Excitement about Ninja Gaiden II has diminished a little bit as the realities of the game and its “depth” sink in. The empty streets, the same old graphics style, etc. etc. He most likely made this sensationalist statement specifically to counter the lack of interest and thining media coverage.

Since when has the lack of evolution (let alone revolution) caused anyone to think less of a next-gen game? I've seen repeat after bland repeat get high marks on all three consoles. If you're going to judge Ninja Gaiden by that measure, then everyone had better start casting a harder light on when reviewing the next shooter, sports, racing, or fighting sequel to hit the shelves.

Ugh the guy is just hyping up his new title. The fact that he basicly gets payed by MS completes the picture.

The man is retarded. The absolute polar opposite of Kojima. When developing Ninja Gaiden he said all sorts of crap like this about other games while saying his is amazing. "all other developers will stop making games when they see it" or some crap like that. So upgraded graphics, a smoother framerate, less loading times, and extra missions as a previously unplayable character makes Sigma crap. I can't wait to see Ninja Gaiden 2 come out, and be EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE FIRST ONE! His response will probably be that his holy formula of Ninja Gaiden was so perfect in the first one that he decided not to add any new elements or mechanics. I repeat, the man is retarded.

besides water combat, survival mode new textures and lighting, Sigma had little to offer really from NG Black.
the inclusion of Rachel IMO, weakened Ryu's story of vengence. the DCTF was pretty laggy as a weapon.
Sigma managed to make water look worse for some reason, and even tho the game is installed it finds ways of loading, MIDFIGHT, halting the action.
there's some minor mishaps like 2 extra costumes missing and Ryu's afterimage missing from every move it involved.
i'd be disappointed too if my game design was messed with. but all that aside he was kinda harsh.
but damn does Ninja Gaiden 2 look good. :D

DCTF was never "laggy", as you say. Ever stop to think that maybe it's the player and not the game? You are also right that it didn't bring much new things. I don't think I played NG for the story. Anyone else care to comment? *sigh. I want NG2 on ps3, but I don't think it'll happen >_>. I still do hope they'll port it though, get it out to as many customers as possible to maximize profit.

A port to the PS3 isn't going to happen. The game is being published by Microsoft Game Studios rather than Tecmo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Gaiden_II_(Xbox_360_Game)
Personally, I'm sticking with "Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos" for the NES. I still can't get past the second level.

who cares I traded in my 360 last year, and NG2 looks like the same engine with more blood.

I don't think he's saying it's bad, just that it lacks upgraded features. Look at the Metal Gear series for instance, each one shares basic mechanics but adds a few features that directly affect gameplay.

and obliteration techniques doesn't affect gameplay directly? more balanced and interesting weapons doesn't affect relying on the dragon sword all the time?
it's a definitive sequel of what it sets out to do. it's wise to keep the formula. they won't give Ryu a grappling hook ala DMC4 and say "hey we changed the formula! it's a bonafide sequel!"

I have a PS3 and a 360, and I haven't seen one game on either platform that I say... wow, that couldn't have been done on the other system. What this really boils down to is politics... not hardware. NGS and NG2 aren't great because of the platforms they run on... its the games themselves that make them what they are.
