Currently, the top-selling PS3 game in Europe is Gran Turismo 5: Prologue. With over a million pre-orders for the game, it became a clear system-seller in that territory. However, Sony Europe is expecting 2D community platformer LittleBigPlanet to surpass even GT5's impressive sales. "We're hoping sales will be higher than GT5 Prologue," David Reeves told GI.biz.Analysts have called LittleBigPlanet a potential system-seller for the PS3. Its accessible gameplay and emphasis on creation and sharing will undoubtedly draw in a new audience to the PS3. However, will the casual gamer really jump to a system that's still considered prohibitively expensive (especially in comparison to the Wii)?
Kaz Hirai noted that "[LittleBigPlanet] will completely revolutionize the way gamers interact with their games, especially through the community functions and the ability to interact with LittleBigPlanet lovers around the globe," during the PlayStation Day keynote.

Well technically speaking, as long as one person buys a PS3 to play a specific game then that game is a system seller :)

No one says that about the Narnia game or the Iron Man game.
It's just GT Prologue, MGS, LBP, and GTA IV. Only games that can be abbreviated.

To be fair, no one has ever called "MLB 08: The Show" a system seller. And considering the high metacritic rating and how people love them sports games, I'd have to figure it sold at least one system to some baseball fan out there.
So... it's really only those big hype games that get labelled system sellers.
"Haze" used to be a system seller game, too.... but.... I think most analysts have retracted that title by now.

I personally would ever buy a system for a game, a library of games, now that's a different matter.

I think price is always a relative thing and as HD takes over the combination of Blu-Ray and incredible games like LBP will make the system look more and more like the bargain it is.
The PS3 is only expensive when compared with systems with half its features.

You know consumer generated content has been a big thing as of late. I see LBP to be a video game version of that. As long as the community for it is big and growing, it'll perhaps promote the game and bring it to greater lengths than what we're used to seeing in those vids. Think youtube, digg, american idol, etc. They're mostly where they are now because of users bringing in content. Look at American Idol! It is revenue for "free." It's not like they have to pay the contestants anything to have them sing on the show.

I agree with Sony. LittleBigPlanet could be the PS3's "Wii Sports". Except it seems like LBP has more depth.

Wii Sports was free, so not quite.
I personally can't wait for LBP, but I don't think its going to have a fraction of the appeal that many say it will. A lot of PS3 fans have a tendency to think each successive exclusive is going the be 'THE game' for some reason.

I decided to get my PS3 once they packed in the DS3 and a decent game (MGS4). I just need to wait until June though. It took Sony long enough to get there.
I'll be sure to pick up LBP when it comes out (is it October now?!). Maybe I can get my wife to play. She's generally disinterested in any games (except for a few drunken rounds of Karaoke Revolution).
