Are you craving for some real-time gameplay? We sure are, and X-Play delivers. Many facets of MGS4's complex gameplay are on display here, from Snake's robotic friend to his NPC assistants. The quality of the footage isn't the best, but it does an excellent job of informing us how the game will play when it comes out in the upcoming months.

I'm scared. The graphics look identical to MGO Beta and they're really not that good.

Did you see the trailer live to make this assessment? Using Youtube video as a basis would be a stretch?
Anyway...just like GTA the story will overcome any graphical shortfalls me thinks.

The graphics seem better to me, more detailed. Look the M4 rifle he's using, the first person view of the rifle in the in game footage shown above looks way better than what you see on MGO.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
All major websites are commenting on how MGS IV will be one of the best looking games ever made.
Read on for one of many examples:

@Frankym: I hope you're right. The MGO beta, gameplay-wise, is awesome (but could use tweaking, that's why it's a beta) but graphics-wise, it looks very simple. The footage Xplay showed about MGS4 looked nearly identical to the beta.
Again, I really hope I'm wrong here. The stills we've seen and the trailers don't match up with what Xplay and the MGO beta have shown us. I want this game to look incredible.

Is this series really worth it?
Never played any of the Metal Gear Games, but was thinking of picking up the box set and playing the first 3 before this comes out....
Just looking for opinions if the Metal Gear Series would appeal to a hardcore SOCOM fan...
thanks

You really want to play through the first three installments before June 12? You must have a lot of free time on your hands then! Not having played any SOCOM game myself, I can't answer your question, but why not just grab one of the previous games from the used games shelf of any Game Stop store and see if that's your kind of game? Personally, I'd recommend MGS 2, Sons of Liberty, which I'm playing again myself right now, still looks great on the PS3, and it's easier to get into than MGS3, I guess.
Hope this helps.

Dude, this game is the main reason I got a PS3 at launch, as did so many other gamers. MGS4 is gonna sell so many PS3s, especially in Europe and Japan. Those guys are nuts about MGS and playstation in general.
God I'm going to be so broke this year. I'm buying Gears of war 2 on Xbox360 and Resistance 2, Haze, MGS4, and LittleBigPlanet on PS3.

my friend picked up and beat MGS1, MGS2, and MGS3 (the essential collection of course), in about 2 weeks. Of course he played nonstop, but it can defnitely be done and is DEFINITELY 100% worth it.

The first two games can be beaten in two days if you really wanted to. The second one is a bit longer than the first.
The third one will take a little bit longer.
I was in the same boat as you since I never played a single Metal Gear Solid game, and now I beat them all. All I need to do now is beat Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops and I'll be ready completely.

If you want color Boom Blox is in the Wii aisle.
Seriously, has there ever been a MGS will 'color'?

What do you want them to do, make Snake's suit purple? You want rainbows in the background and all the guards wearing hot pink suits? Go play Halo if you want bright ass colors.

Where is the color in the Middle East in the first place? Maybe the game has scenes taking place at a flashy club, or outdoor scenes in Thailand, but unless someone who knows the storyline fills us in, we wouldn't know.
As far as I'm concerned, realistic colors are fine with me. This is no The Club, nor Army of Two, nor Kane and Lynch, you know. MGS always had a black and white feel to it (or grayscale/bluescale, now that I think of it).

I'm really excited or the new MGS because I love the story. Having said that, I was always more interested in infiltrating buildings (tankers too) then running around in the outdoors. theres something about running around a torn up sandy city with mooing machines chasing you that doesn't really appeal to me. This game will most likely be great anyways but i hope theres variation to this setting.
