Gamers of the PS1 era might remember Spyro rather fondly in their hearts. The original titles were developed by Insomniac (Ratchet & Clank series, Insomniac) and they featured some impressive visuals, animation and voice acting for its time. Since then, Spyro was picked up by a few other developers and faded into obscurity.
Well, could the fire-breathing dragon be making a comeback? We were surprised (we still are) by the startling transformation the series is experiencing with its upcoming PS3/360 game. Like many, we didn't know that Dawn of the Dragon is the end of a trilogy. Who knew that this supposed children's series could look so inspired?
The production values extend to far beyond the visuals. Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman, Cristina Ricci, Blair Underwood, Mark Hamill, and Wayne Brady all have voice roles in the upcoming game. With such star power, and incredible visuals, it seems like Spyro is ready to return to its PS1-era glory. Let's hope Dawn of the Dragon can make Insomniac Games proud when it releases later this year.

Me too, I feel like it's an effect of the 360 development. I see it on all xbox/ps multi-plats. But on none of the exclusives.

Is Insomniac making another Spyro? No? Oh well... Sorry, but I have no interest in any non-Insomniac Games Spyro game, and the same goes for non-Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot games and non-Harmonix Guitar Hero games.

I enjoyed Crash of the Titans and Guitar Hero 3, but this looks really unfun. It's gonna suffer the same fate as every post-PS Spyro game other than the GBA Eternal night.

Agreed! Until Insomniac steps back in as dev, Spyro is pretty much dead to me. Even with nice eye-candy and v.o. talents, I'm not much interested. =S

Pretty shallow minded of you to think that a non orignal developer means rubbish game, at least wait for it before you pass judgement.
Not saying it will be great, just don't think it will be bad before you actually see it.

Nothing surprising... the fall-off effects inspired by Mario Galaxy. Dragon health bars, inspired by WOW Elite monsters!
I guess for this game it's all surprising, but it's been that long since I played Spyro, probably won't pick it up!

omg, this does look amazing...spryo usually absolutely sucks. i did play the ps1 era, and i loved it, but just looking at the billion games that came out later, i decided not to think about him. but it looks like spryo himself matured...finally, longer tail and bigger wings, and i bet some six axis support from looking at some of the screen shots. i'll wait for some reviews and decide if he's worth it this time.

im most likely not goinna get it. Of course I played the PS1 games, but even if it was very fun, it was sometimes a matter of hurry or move a lot, and guys, believe, i wasnt the game with best camera of all the time, i always made me sick running like crazy from place to place... but my sis loved it...
