Deal of the Day: Assassin's Creed for $30
If you were not one of the droves of morons drooling over Jade, then you actually listened to the news reports and would know that the game was fairly good with excellent visuals, and an alluring, original story. If you haven't picked this game up yet, then the 50% discount at 30 bucks is a good asking price to jump in. Go for it or not, that's your choice; however, just make sure that decision is based on the game itself and not on who's making it, okay?
[Thanks grief!]

this game was like crackdown in the middle east. instead of gangs there were crusades, horses instead of motor vehicles, swords instead of guns, etc. crackdown was more fun but shorter. I wish the combat in creed was more fun, I thought it stunk.

I got the game when it first came out and loved it... until I finished the first 3 sectors of each city. After that, it just became repetitive and almost like work.
At $30 I say go for it, because at least if you get bored with it, you can trade it in and get most of your money back...
Don't get me wrong though, the story was good, it just took a long time to hear the story if you completed all the viewpoints, saved all the citizens, eavesdropped on all the locals, went after flags that lazy assassins lost, beat up the mean guards who were going to kill the coward-like assassin's and I think that pretty much covers it.

This is more like deal of the (yester)day!!! You see what I did there? WOW great joke I must say. (I'm being sarcastic...just in case)
Joking aside, the deal started yesterday and I bought the game since it's so cheap. More games should be released at this price point, I would buy them without thinking twice (or thrice).

For a PRODUCER of a crazy arse looking VIDEO GAME, Jade's definitely a rare one lol.
I actually loved the story of A's Creed. Missions were very repetitive, but if you endured it, the last hour will serve you well. Also, those cities were breathtaking.
Amazing game for $30 IMO.

The stability issues have been fixed, and there were very few framerate issues. The only time I really noticed it was on the tower sequences, and even then it was just a little bit of tearing.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but...
I was enthralled at the TV ads for this, but lost interest after it became apparent that in AC you play an Arab Muslim assassin and the goal of the game is to kill European Christians, with the ultimate goal of overthrowing the Christian kingdoms in the medieval Holy Land and re-instituting Islamic rule.
Am I wrong about that that's what the game is about? I have a tinge of uncertainty because the material I've read about this never explicitly states this, but it seems apparent.

you are a bit incorrect about the premise behind the game. for the most part (without giving away any key plot points), the Assassins are a group that merely want peace in the holy land. They "rid" the land of both Europeans and Arabs both, so you haven't worry.
And by the way, the Assassins are neither Muslim nor Christian, although they are very Arab. Altair is a really sweet sounding name though.

Like the other poster says, Altair has no allegiance to either Christian or Islamic faith.
But if he was Islamic, I can certainly appreciate his point of view. You have these bunch of foreigners come and invade your homeland. I'd think he wouldn't be too happy about it. For the most part, the Crusaders were not a bunch of nice guys. They were involved in genocide, mutilation, and general wholesale destruction. That's not even mentioning the corruption as well. They retarded a civilisation that was more scientifically advanced than Europe at the time. I don't think they've ever recovered from that.
Nope, I don't think that the Crusaders deserve much pity.

dave, since you went into broader issues, I think it should be remembered that the Arabs / Muslims were also invaders. The area had been part of the officially Christian Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire for centuries when the Arabs left Arabia in the 7th and 8th century and started conquering other peoples' lands. The Muslims imposed heavy discriminatory taxes, and made the locals "dhimmis", who were not even second class citizens - not citizens at all who could not even testify in court. Western Europe was in chaos at the time, in the Dark Ages, but after they got themselves together a bit, they were moved by stories of persecution in the Holy Land and decided to take it back for Christianity. So exactly who was liberating whom is not so clear-cut is it?
