PS3 Fanboy hands-on: Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit
On the demo we played, we got a taste of two different battles from the beginning of the DBZ story. Once in the fray, we noticed right away that fights were fast-paced and intense. The ki meter, which controls the use of ki attacks and special abilities, fills up automatically. This allows more powerful moves to be used quicker and more frequently, also giving the gameplay more variety when developing your own unique fighting style.
A big addition to the game is the use of something called "Drama Pieces." These are events where a secondary character will swing by to aid you in battle. These characters will appear as certain conditions are met; for example, when health is low or when you sustain or deal a specific amount of damage. It appears that enemies can use this against you as well. They'll have their own allies to help them out, as witnessed when we used Yamcha to fight off the Saibamen.
Overall, battles were quick and exciting skirmishes. There are lots of things to do and lots of ways to mix up your fighting style. The faster ki and the drama pieces are good examples, but there's also an aura mode where you can boost your strength and speed. The options are all there to ensure you're playing a unique battle every time you go one-on-one. So far, our playtime with the game had been fun. We'll hopefully get to play more of the game when it comes out this June. We'll definitely be playing the PS3 version of course!

You seriously couldn't get your hands on the PS3 build? The PS3 one was right next to the 360 one.

Yeah, when we were there on Friday morning, the test PS3 booth didn't have the latest firmware and couldn't run the game.
After finding some time in between appointments, I swung by the booth again ... and both systems were offline. Luck of the draw.

Admittedly I didn't exactly get my hands on the build either. Was too busy waiting for the Sean Schemmel signing.

"Traders!!!"
Haha, I hate those people always correcting other posters grammar, but now I'm afraid that I've become grammar Nazi too, the correct pronunciation of the word you were trying to imply is traitors... Haha I know I suck

i hope this game wont give us characters that we wont care to play, the same old story lines, the same bullshit graphics and, well, the same old, same old. how many different games you need to tell the same story over and over?

The hands-on lacks some comparisons to previous games! Is it similar to any of the previous DBZ games? Speed-wise does it draw closer to Budokai Tenkaichi or those slowass Budokai games?

Burst Limit is made by Dimps who also made the Budokai games. It's quite similar to those ones.

Great, I loved the 3 Budokai games on the PS2, didn't like the Budokai Tenkaichi games at all.
Glad to see they went back with the Budokai formula. I hope our port is good.
I don't want to be negative, but many times, our crossplatform ports are worse than the 360's and I will get a PS3 next month. I hope this port is great, too bad it'll lack things like achievements and custom soundtracks.
This game comes out June right?

same here. i have all of the Budokai games but every DBZ game ive bought since then (Shin Budokai and Budokai Tenkaichi's) have been boring to the point where i returned them after playing for like 2 weeks. what the hell do i need 150 characters in a fighting game for? i seriously only use like 5 tops.
the split screen play of Tenkaichi games was kinda annoying at best as well. too hard to actually find my opponent. i thought it was a great idea at first but i think i liked the old was better.

I am glad this game is coming, sadly the game is basically a graphical upgrade to the budokai 3 game. I find it annoying how they try to make it sound brond new and never been done.
ex"we are going to change the colour of the sky, it will become super sky blue, we have never seen anything like this and can't wait"< - like that is a sum of how the makers sound to me

Sadly, I think its just like the first Budokai game, in that it only goes up to the Cell Saga.
So I'm guessing they'll make future Burst Limit games to finish the entire show's saga.

I haven't played a DBZ game for a while, would you say that this is better than the previous versions? (Not just in terms of graphics either)

again, I have to ask: Am I the only person in the world who wants a good DBZ role playing game??? Enough with the fighters! It's been done! How about something exciting and new for the franchise?!?

Meh. As I've said before ... I'd rather see a Tenkaichi release.
