Split-screen unlikely to come to PS3 Unreal Tournament

The tardy Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III comes with a few features missing from the PS3 original. The most notable new feature is split-screen multiplayer. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this will come as a downloadable patch any time soon. Epic's Mark Rein told videogamer.com "I don't think so, because this is what's in this (the Xbox 360 version) game. I think it would be a big job to go back and retrofit that game for split-screen. I just don't think we have the resources to do that unfortunately."

"We heard from the PS3 guys they really wanted split-screen. Maybe if we'd spent eight more months on the game like we have here," he added. Of course, the PS3 version of UT3 will still sport a key feature the Xbox 360 version will never see: unrestricted access to fan-created mods.

Actually we can get the added characters and maps...just mod them into creation. That's the best part about our version. It'll probably be a couple days before we have those characters/maps too, due to the modding.

I'll take mods over split screen any day of the week. Tried doing split screen on Warhawk with a friend of mine...could barely see anything. Hated it.

I think it's stupid how most multiplayer games are online only. Split screen gaming with a friend is far more sociable and a good way to spend time with REAL friends, and also makes family games possible. Plus, the average screen size is finally becoming better suited (16:9 ratios) to it.

I wish people would stop saying "REAL FIENDS". The people I play with online are some of the coolest people ever(been playing with them for a long time), and by your logic, they are "FAKE". These people are "REAL" people man, they talk, they breathe etc, etc.

I like to play with my buds from Scotland, Texas, Chicago, Cali, and New York, just to name a few.

That's something you can never do without online play.

Splitscreen is overrated. Unless you have a big TV it is a nightmare. To the xbot up there, wow you technical genius. The 360 has splitscreen as thay had to offer something as there are many more maps and mods available for the PS3 version, something the 360 will never compete with. Motorstorm 2 has splitscreen, so go on WRETCHED, explain that technical genius.Whats worse than a Fanboy? A Fanboy with nothing useful to say.

Agreed, split screen is great fun. I hate online-only multiplayer achievements. I'm certainly going to miss user-created content though. On the other hand, if I want to see hundreds of players shooting at each other while looking like Mastur Bate - Master Chief - I'd just play Halo. But screw Halo, Unreal is so much more fun. Anything id is great too.
