Well hooray for that. It's about bloody time that Sony finally says that they're discontinuing the SIXAXIS controllers. They'd told Stephen Totilo of MTV exactly that, adding that once the current stock runs out (estimated to be sometime during the Summer) there will be no more. Presumably this means that DualShock 3s will be made standard pack-ins when buying a PS3. Again, it's about bloody time.
Meanwhile SCEE are remaining tight lipped regarding any date for a European launch of the new rumbling controllers. We're hoping they'll hit before June, considering how big of a fan Kojima is of using the feature. There is a rumor that DualShock 3s will be hitting Europe a month from now, on May 2nd. If we hear anything more then we'll be sure to let you know.

Bit of a shame they're discontinued sixaxis...i was going to trade in mine for money off on a dualshock 3
Ah well. I'm glad PS3 is getting rumble.
Although i didn't really notice it was missing with the games i've been playing.
I played timesplitters at my mates house on PS2 and it wasn't until he said "Dosen't it feel weird for you to have your controller vibrate?" i actually noticed lol
Perhaps i just have asbestos hands or something. Anyway DS3 FTW

I'm going to buy a couple more SIXAXIS controllers and make it 4 total for me. I personally dislike rumble, just a preference. I also enjoy the lighter weight controller.

Want to buy mine, I'm pissed that I have to go buy all new controllers just to get a feature that should have been included in the first place. Sony just didn't want to pony up the money for the patent.

I'm sort of with you on this one... Rumble = not THAT big of a deal to me.
I'm definitely going to keep my eyes peeled for fire sales on SIXAXIS.

I'm with you too, I'm not a big fan of rumble. For most titles I turn it off. I actually don't have a PS3 yet, I'm waiting for the new MSG4 bundle to come out. But I've seen SIXAXIS discounted in some stores and I'm thinking of picking up three of them before they are sold out even though I won't have my PS3 for a few months. Then again, maybe I should just wait and try to get some used SIXAXIS from *shudder* gamestop.

rumble actually helps in racing games.
rumble can be used as a warning or to help in puzzles.
rumble can be used to enhance fps games (tho it sucks the PS3 doesn't have proper gun triggers).
Sony should've paid off Immersion so rumble could have been there day one.
rumble is a good thing. not a "last gen" thing.

Pay attention and not drinking actually helps in racing games.
Better sleeping patterns can help with solving puzzles.
And with the horrible aiming with joystiqs (heh) I fail to see how a shaking controller can enhance fps games.
In all seriousness that's fine, you can have your little rumble feature. I don't see the point in wanting things that vibrate.

always had rumble turned off on my ps2, I find the rumble does nothing but distract from the game.

Any word on the battery life of the DS3? I can see that as a big advantage for sixaxis.

jeremy - battery life is excellent, think the battery is smaller, but has larger capacity.

It needs an auto-off feature like the 360's controller. Too many times have I been watching a blu-ray and forget to turn the controller off. An auto-off feature would double the charged time on the controller.

yeah that's true, or you're watching your DLNA streaming and your mate bumps one of the triggers, rewinding or FF'ing the whole thing :)

I actually noticed a slight improvement with my DS3 battery over the SIXAXIS.

If you have streaming issues, pony up the 20 bucks and get a remote. I dithered on it for months, but kept having the incidents you describe (not my "mate", though, but my 2-year-old knocking the controller on the floor and skipping to the beginning of the recording). The remote is much harder to accidentally screw up, plus it's easier to use and you don't have to keep recharging it. It either has really excellent battery life or turns itself off frequently (I think it's the latter).

Anyone think there will be some sort of trade in program? I would gladly send my controllers in even if I'm without them for a week. Or is that just wishful thinking?

I just got confirmation my DS3 shipped from Amazon. I've been waiting forever to add a second controller to my PS3. I know a lot of you say you prefer no rumble, but that's one of the reasons I buy all my multi-system games for the 360 (Live and overall controller layout being the others). From the violent recoil of a shotgun, to the subtle shot clock countdown in March Madness 08, rumble is a must.
