The European gaming community really, really loves Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. After a platinum pre-order and a stellar launch, the PS3 has been gaining quite a bit of traction. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Chart-Track's Dorian Bloch said: "PlayStation 3 sales went up by 14 per cent for week 13, after going up 73 per cent the week before."
We're certain that we can expect a similar sales boom after the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 as well. In comparison, Chart-Track noted that "Xbox 360 sales were down by 11 per cent." The effects of Microsoft's price drop were strong, but looks like the power of GT overshadowed the efforts of Microsoft's bargain pricing.
For those in love with sales and numbers, this generation of consoles is proving rather interesting. It'll be fascinating to see the effect GT has on the American market, when it launches in a few weeks time.

PS3 still leads the 360 despite Microsoft's price drop. The cheapest model is cheaper than the Wii for goodness sake! MS must be pretty desperate.

sadly the ps3 is still 10 mil consoles behind the 360 and probly wont ever catch up when the 360 drops price and gears of war 2 is released, that game is too big for anything the ps3 has to offer in 2008 =\

Actually Defiler, the PS3 has many games which appeal to many different audiences whereas Gears 2 only appeals to the hardcore/shooting/action crowd.

Why is it desperate when MS drops the price, but you all applaud when Sony drops the price?
MS drops price - "Lol they must be teh desperate!!"
Sony drops price - "Omg brilliant move!"

Gears's fanbase is built up of primarily 360 owners. It probably won't have that much of a boost in 360 sales as most fans already own a 360, and probably won't sell as much as the origional, as it doesn't have the next-gen wow factor like the origional did.

Must be depressing when a "glorified demo" overshadows the effects of a price drop, eh?
Oh, and Polyphony: Please patch in an English option for the Japanese version of Prologue! Being able to read the menus is very important, especially with the new tuning options.

lol yeah must be embarrasing for Microsoft.
Although i don't see Prologue as a glorified demo personally. I actually see it as a small game, which is reasonable for £25.
If anything its given me more incentive to purchase GT5 and given others who are unsure about the whole driving simulator idea a chance to play a small version before the bigger, better complete version.

I don't view it as a glorified demo either (hence the quotation marks), I was just quoting what people who are against the game have said about it to solidify the burn.

I know more than a few people that REALLY want to get a PS3 for GT Prologue, but they refuse to buy a console w/o backwards compatibility. The MGS4 bundle is gonna be sweet, but I think it'll really hurt their sales here in the states not to have an 80GB on the shelves for 2+ months.

I have two friends who went out last weekend and picked up the prologue bundle. It's a little sucky that BC isn't included anymore, but they've coped. and it gives me a little bit reassurance being an early adopter was a good idea.

Buddy guess you didn't read my comment. I've WATCHED with my own eyes, two people buy a PS3 for 'a racing game', and I know a 3rd who is on the fence. He's really cheap, but at least he knows not to waste his money (ie; buy an xbox2).

In the US, the economy is suffering. Yet notice how videogame sales are not falling. This happened in an earlier economy, when movie sales went through the roof. Basically, during times of strife, people want an escape. In the US, for the next two years, games will sell very well because of this. I think in Europe it's a little different. They tend to spend more on this stuff when they're strong, and that the Euro is.
