MTV 'dates' upcoming PSN games
While May will be the busiest month of the quarter, April will kick things off with (as well as a Store redesign) PixelJunk Monsters: Encore, an expansion pack for the well received tower defense game, which is pegged for the latter part of the month. Echochrome and Elefunk will keep May interesting until WipEout HD finally gets a release in "late May, or early June".
Interestingly, it seems that Echochrome will receive two releases - one for PS3 and one for PSP. Each will be entirely different to the other in terms of level layout, but both will be available for download from the PSN Store. True Echochrome fans will no doubt want to grab both versions for the full experience. Needless to say, these dates are all US based. There's no telling when Europe will be seeing any of these games ...

I had initially completly blow off and ignored both PJ monsters and elefunk based on their names alone really.
That is until i found out that they were a tower defense and bridge builder games. I have previously played and been addicted to the pc games. - i played and beat all 3 of hte bridge builder games (the one where you have to get trains across)
I'm not sure if that means anything, is someone like me their target audience with these games?

In a word, yes. These little devs know what they're doing. Even though PJ Racers failed, PJ Monsters was a big hit. It turns out alot of people are fans of tower defense games but nobody bothers to develop them on any platforms due to dev costs and distribution. However the PSN is turning this around and we're starting to see alot of creative niche titles (like Everyday Shooter) reach their audience.
Personally I'm glad that Sony is leaving the PSN as open as it is. We'll continue to see great titles without size restrictions for years to come.

I mean if it had been called tower defense or bridge builder I would have been pumped from the get go.
But instead they put these cutesy spin on the games that i dont even recognize them right off the bat.
It's not till i realized later down the line what their core gameplay mechanic was that I became interested in them.
So I'm wondering if their target audience are fans of the original gameplay, or if their goal is to bring the gameplay to more people who have never played these games before.
