European PSN update coming sometime today - we hope
Other expected releases include the Eye of Judgment expansion. Obviously, we'll let you know as soon as we hear anything. If you're feeling really impatient, however, feel free to go pick up the Blu-Ray version. With no idea about when the store update is coming, It could be a long day of waiting.

Can't see why anyone would get the PSV version, most shops offer the disc version for less.

Smells a bit like BS to me but at least Sony have acknowledged the delay. I bought the Blu-Ray GT5:P this morning and it's a beautiful thing, though don't think that buying the Blu-Ray will save you HDD space - with the initial install from disc and immediate (and large) update you have to download, you'll lose 6gb of HDD, ouch...

Out of interest, is SCE aware that Europe is, generally, less than impressed by the poor treatment they get with Store releases and demos / updates / etc?
I know that many people complain on here about Europe getting bad treatment, and many Americans are at the point where they are sick of hearing Euros moan about it, but I would be very interested to get Sony's perspective on their shoddy treatment of Europe.
All of this business about converting games in to many different languages just doesn’t wash any more (not that it ever did as far as I am concerned): I manage a web site that is updated every day in 12 languages, and the product we sell is regularly updated too; and it’s very text intensive – all we do is get native speakers of the appropriate language to create text files for us, the merge them in to our product. It’s not rocket science – the idea’s been around years.
I find it very hard to believe that a company the size of Sony can’t manage to treat all of its customer countries equally.
Anyone know of an ‘official’ response as to the state of the European updates and what they intend to do about it?

The closest thing to an official response was from the head of Sony in Australia (they are part of Europe as far as Playstation is concerned) that they where aware of that the delays caused by translations and certifications was frustrating people and that it was something they where trying to improve on.
I would point out though that games often come with audio which needs translation too, not just text. And good dubbing isn't something you can just do in the office with the one guy who speaks French and the woman who speaks German. Also I guess for countries requiring the games to be certified by a government agency they probably demand the game to be fully translated before even starting the certification process.

You can complain as much as you like. Europe should get the same treatment as the US.

Is that the best PSone "classic" SCEE can be bothered to scrape up off the bottom of the barrel for Europe?
The Japanese store got MGS1 this week...
We get reel f***ing fishing.
REEL MUTHAF****NG FISHING. WTF????
Is there no end of SCEE's FAIL???

Very good point about the dubbing - that didn't come in to my figuring of the situation as I rather like using sub-titles and hearing the 'real' voices; but yes, that would cause a rather larger delay I guess.
It's still amazing that Sony can get away with this though. PS3 is usch an amazing bit of hardware, but it's just sooo let down by the developers and its parent company that it's shocking.
Still, in 5 years time, when the Devs have worked out how to use it, and everyone has got their act together, I guess we will all look back and laugh... Although it is difficult to see the funny side when I payed £450 for my PS3 a year ago and I still only have 5 games I like playing on it. Ho hum...

LJ, Metal Gear Essentials/collection isn't available in Europe (and hasn't been announced either), so throwing the PS1 version on the store wouldn't be a bad thing.
It's a shame that while PS3 games are region free, they couldn't have extended it to PS1/2 games as well, there's a shed load of rpgs that the US got that PAL regions didn't.
I agree with the first comment, not sure why someone would prefer a downloadable version of the game, least you have everything on one disc, without the need to get missing parts over the network, plus storage space (and also the fact that you can't trade in).

I stayed up waiting for the delayed PSN update. Nothing and with no idea of when it is exactly coming. I grabbed a BD copy and now discover it will take up 6gb of precious limited hard drive space. Considering this is such a important game and will most likely be some people's most wanted game of 2008.
Coming from a fanboy i've got to say, it's kind of hard to stick up for Sony right now.

meh the 6Gb install is worth it, compare the 5 second loading times of GT5 to Forza and its loading times which must come close to a minute (feels like it anyway)

I can sympathize with you guys in the EU a little about the PSN updates. I think this week's problem is just clearly a technical issue as reported, it could have happend in the US or Japan. But as for long delays when releasing games, I could see being overly annoyed by it.
But you guys have to realize your like several dozen regions grouped through one store and when Germany and France both have very restrictive language laws, I can see that the games are delayed more to political red tape in then by any failing by Sony. I am Sony would rather see more games put more quickly in the hands of all thier customers, rather then having them wait months for it.
What Sony should do is further refine the EU store by region so that as different localizations for each region are made available they can be posted more quickly. The problem with this is that I could see Germany and France not liking this because their citizens might be more likely to download an English version of the game rather then a German or French version, and the whole point of their language laws is to promote their language and culture on their citizens, rather then have it "watered" down. But seeing as its possible to download the US or Japan version anyways, there is no way around it, so just release the English, French, German, Spanish, etc versions as they come, at least offer patches for the games do localize them as its made available.
