Unfortunately it seems that Ninja Theory are definitely not currently working on Heavenly Sword 2. Nina Kristensen, co-founder of Ninja Theory, confirmed the news during an interview with GameIndustry.biz. Instead, the development team is working on a new multiplatform intellectual property, potentially leaving the Sony owned Heavenly Sword franchise for another developer to play with.
Kristensen also mentions that they're thinking of producing a CGI movie to accompany their new project. Nothing's confirmed yet, as the two and a half year development cycle has only just started, but the potential of using the game engine to produce a movie is something they're definitely interested in. The full interview will be published on GameIndustry.biz later this month, where Kristensen will discuss their new project in further depth. In the meantime, check out the concept art for the game that was found on the new Ninja Theory website.
Ninja Theory's next game could have accompanying CGI movie

Actually, there's going to be a lot more Kai. The next Heavenly Sword game will focus on Kai exclusively. I think there was a post about it last week on PS3Fanboy.

The one caveat is that the game will not be developed by Ninja Theory, as the article so indicates.

I didn't even think another Heavenly Sword would be necessary at all. CGI movie + video game would be great. I loved the marketing they had with the mini videos for Heavenly Sword.

I disagree... HS was a great game, and a sequel is mandatory, at least i want it to be.
Its sad ninja theory is not gonna develop the next HS, they got a great artistic style and their story telling was compelling. HS was one of the game i got more immersed and the character development was awesome i loved nariko and her cause and i had lots of fun with kai.
Well.. maybe this will be a good thing and maybe sony will develop HS2 themselves... even though ninja theory is a great developer they did have frame rate problems with this game...

It really was an amazing game, but it's just that imo sequels always ruin it. What else could there be to do in that game; she completed her mission.
Same thing with Ninja Gaiden 2; like wtf will these games be about seriously.

So they're no longer developing for sony exclusively? Hmmm.

This sounds scarily similar to the God of War situation. Cory Barlog said that the reason he left the GoW franchise after making GoW2 is that he wanted more developmental freedom. I think Ninja Theory is after the same thing. /conjecture

damn thats a stab to the gut right there. Guess they didnt sell enough copies to make it worth it for them to do another one. Maybe they'll take a break and go back to it in a few years.

Please tell me the part about new multiplatform IP is not saying they are going to work on the 360 too.
I was really looking forward to what they could do on the PS3 when they knew more about it and now if they do not push the PS3 I will be sick. Unless this means that the PSP is getting a version of this IP too.

Heavenly Sword is SONY's IP. They will choose a developer and they think is needed.. i hope thats sooner than later.
Rest assure, this does not mean HS is dead, only that Ninja Theory MIGHT - a big might - not be the developer.

So wait... not only is they're next game not going to be HS2, but it's over 2 years away from release? That's probably an even bigger disappointment!
I was blown away by Heavenly Sword (though if I never have to throw another shield (or another hundred) to open a door...) and look forward to seeing whatever they do next.

I agree with you... that sword and shield throwing... was too much.. I was: "OK, WE GOT IT.. the controller has motion sensing".

Hopefully the two sides are still on good terms if Ninja Theory does not happen to work on a Heavenly Sword 2. Hopefully the situation isn't Ninja Theory saying FU to Sony's IP.

What is left out of this story is the fact that this new IP is also going to the 360 as referenced in this link http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/03/19/heavenly-sword-devs-target-360-for-next-project/.
