It took some time, but it's finally done it: Incognito's online-only Warhawk has reached the 500,000 registered player mark. The game was an interesting and risky venture for Sony: would people pay to play a game without a single player component? Looks like the answer is "yes."
Warhawk was the first game to take advantage of a new business model Sony is implementing in this generation. Warhawk is available on Blu-ray and as a downloadable. The $40 price point is high for a downloadable, but contains much more content than the average downloadable game.
We're certain that Warhawk fans will be pleased by the news -- Dylan Jobe said that more DLC will come to the game "as long as the community exists." It looks like it's going quite strong.

While I guess I should be encouraged by this number I can't help but feel a lil ashamed that it's only 500,000...this number sounds too low. I've said it before and I'll say it again...why aren't more people playing this game?? It's one of the best games on the system. I have a pretty busy schedule during the week but I try to play at least once a day...so many memorable moment of intense gun fighting....sh** blowin up all over the place....the sound of Warhawks flying overhead. I'm really surprised that the gameplay hasn't gotten old to me yet. Capture the Flag (CTF) is the best...many times tryin to get the flag off their base and back to ours...I leave the game shaking. LOL Suffice it say I LOVE THIS GAME and so should you....LOL

The game is awesome but 500,000 is not a lot. It probably didn't cost them too much to develop it though.

I will agree, this game is awesome. Play it for hours a day sometimes and it kicks ass. 500,000 is a decent number. But Ken is right, more people need to be playing.

I played it religiously until I signed in one day and my rank was gone and everything was set back to 0.
I might get back into it again though.

I play it some, but I can pretty much only stand to play dogfights... I just can't stand FPS gaming with dual analogs. It feels so horribly inaccurate and slow. I guess since I never played halo, I didn't get the reflexes down... I've been playing KB&M for over a decade... hard to get used to the analogs.
Love the dogfights, though!

I agree, but I've got used to the analogs now, it just takes a while and quite a few deaths to get used to it.
Really, what would be good is if they would add AI into the game, so you can have Bots in a local game, so you can play locally against some bots to learn the maps & weapon locations so you don't get murdered online for the first couple of weeks.
500,000 isn't bad for a game which is Online only...
The upcoming 1.3 patch looks good as well, I only wish they would improve the controls so it makes aiming a bit easier, as a K&M veteran, its very hard to snipe someone with the analogs.

Sniping is supposed to be hard, this way you have to develop the skill of sniping. Otherwise everyone could sit back and pick people off...
It's like learning to be one in real life...takes time and dedication...

edboy - I agree it should be hard, I'm not suggesting auto-aim or anything! But aiming via a mouse is a damn sight easier than an analog stick which has no ability for fine movement.
What I wish they'd add is the function where you can hold down L1 to allow you to make fine adjustments when aiming. I just find its very hard to make fine adjustments without it jumping all over the place.

here's the trick, if you know you are going to be spending a round sniping, go into the options and turn down the sensitivity.
I have several "presets" that I use depending on my play style for a round - and will often even change it during the re-spawn coutdown.

I used to love it before they nerfed the tanks. That was the only vehicle I felt safe in...the Warhawks are made out of paper mache. Nothing more fun than rolling in a tank with someone else driving, you pop the lid and get off some heat seekers to swat that pesky Warhawk that's been pecking at you.
Good times, good times. Maybe I'll fire it up again tonight to see if I still suck at flying.

Right on! I always start up Warhawk thinking I will try out my flying skills again only to realize I will never be good at it. I really wish I could fly...

Congrats to Incognito, job well done. Didn't seem like it was that long ago when there were talks of Sony closing the studio down much like FASA Interactive with Shadowrun. I remember comparing this game to Shadowrun until it release when I dropped the $40 on it day one, and loved every minute of playing it. Here's to future success for Warhawk and more importatnly Incognito.

I don't play it because there's no single player component. I'd love to see them add bots for a Warhawk 2.
I'm not complaining; I'm just saying that the potential audience is a bit limited. Some PS3 owners don't have their machines online (hard to believe I know!) and some just don't have the time to develop the skills needed to play multiplayer.
I don't care if I suck if I'm playing with bots, but I hate playing MP games and sucking and letting down my team, so I just opt out.

I was the same way, but there are rank controlled servers. I started on the lower servers and learned and worked my way up to a killing machine!
This is the first online game I've played and stuck with, it is digital crack in its purest form!!!

This game has some of the sickest, intense and funniest online battles I've ever had on any system. Bought it at launch date and still can't get enough of this game. For some reason It doesn't get boring to me. Is a different experience every time...latest for me: Planes flooding the sky with air mines (sorry guilty for this one) or just planting mines in planes of enemy bases (pisses me off!) :P It just doesn't get any better. My favorite game on the ps3 hands down!

I haven't played it yet... been busy and other games kept flooding in and been playing trauma center with recent purchase of wii. I think the biggest hurdle for me is shelling out 40 for a multiplayer game and am not sure if i will get sick of it or not.
