The Japanese box art seems a little bit drab compared to it's predecessors; we wonder if the US box art is going to be a whole lot snazzier. A headshot of Snake is nice, but we'd love to see Liquid Ocelot too; and of course, Raiden -- because we just know how much you all love Raiden. But seriously, this artwork is a nice way to salute the aged Snake ... or maybe it's just a fun way to show off his saucy mustache.

Its Iconic, but, to me doesn't do the game justice.
Also, based on what I've seen in the trailers I think after this game is all over, people will have much love for Raiden.

Only thing i don't particularly like about it (And this i can easily live with, and i ent that fussed about it really) is the font of Metal Gear Solid 4. I dunno, i got used to the MGS2 and MGS3 font. I think the "L" look a bit off.
But bah, i'm just nit-picking :)
It still looks rock solid!

Does anyone know what this is or what it's called?
So far this game looks amazing and I just wish I new what the story was.

For the most part benny, the games are pretty independent of each other. MGS1 and 2 story lines are fairly similar. Snake (or Raiden in MGS2) infiltrate a facility that has been taken over by terrorists. Lo and behold, the terrorist's demands are just a cover-up for their true plan to unleash Metal Gear, a Mechwarrior/Gundam that can deploy nukes anywhere in the world. The terrorists are also headed by Liquid Snake, Solid Snake's twin brother (they came about as part of a perfect soldier-making program, which is revealed during the game). Liquid and Solid hate each other. MGS3 is a prequel that takes place in the 70's during the Cold War. The idea is the same except it involves Snake's mother as head of the evil organization, and it's in the jungle. Other characters are subsequently introduced. The PSP games take place between MGS3 and MGS1...I'm not sure how they fit in just yet. For more detail I suggest Wiki...

I sure hope the Euro cover isn't the same as the US. PS3 games seem to be going that way generally and for me Euro PS2 covers were generally better than their US counterparts (like ICO, Chaos Legion, MGS2/3, FFX/XII and so on) I wouldn't mind the Japanese one, but i'm sure the US one is just gonna have loads of character shots like a movie poster.

Please don't applaud the European FF covers. They're boring as hell. They're all the same: white background with generic FF logo. In the beginning they oozed class, now they ooze generic blandness. The US cover for FF Tactics on the PSP, now that was beautiful.

the box art is just fine. no complaints here.
the glow is his solid eye is very remenisant of Grey Fox's cyber eye glow.
i like the black. it's perfect for the somber tone of the story.
i really like the text too. very sophisticated. don't see problems at all.
i don't wish anything to change at all with it. i hope we get this cover come June.

MOO! Kojima Prod. employs some of the finest, most unique artistic talent in the game industry in my opinion. I love 'em (and this cover art). It's not the typical "ad-on-a-box" seen all over games and films in the US, it's actual art. Knowing Kojima, there's probably something hidden in it as well.
It first reminded me of Yoji Shinkawa's 2-D "codec" art in the original MGS on the PlayStation. Good stuff!
