It seems Sony and the FCC have a little deal going on, as they've
filed for a change regarding the PS3 besides the wireless module.
Sony's letter states that "this is not to cause any modification to the mentioned electric characteristics and RF characteristics". While our mumbo-jumbo isn't fluent, we want to assume Sony is going to create future PS3's with the new 45nm Cell chip inside. That's our two cents, but it's really anyone's guess as this is all just speculation on our part.
[Thanks, Kspraydad!]

Well the bottom of my PS3 label says 3.2amp and the new one is 3amp so it's the smaller chip, case solved. They will also have a new power supply inside with less heat so it's good news.

i didn't know that. that is great news, as this beasts probably generates enough heat to warm my entire house if i were to just circulate it a little better, haha.

The label on the 40GB one (with a 65nm based Cell) should read 3.5A/100V. Where did you get this 3A number from?

If you click on the links in the article to see the FCC exhibits, one of them is a link to the new label that shows 3amps.

RF characteristics? Seems like they are finally going to allow universal remotes to work with the system... at least that's my guess

That's one thing I love about Sony. They take something good and keep refining it year after year. Case in point: PS2 slim, PSP slim, etc.

It's not 45nm Cell. The 65nm has only recently came online. It takes at least 6 months for retooling and another 3-6 to get wafers made, cells produced and fitted into units.
I would be suprised if we see 45nm Cells in PS3's before Xmas 08.

I think it's actually more likely that they're including the DS3 with the system. Changing which cell processor they're using seems to me like something that would alter the RF characteristics of the device.
