Red Faction III named, announced, detailed
Set on Mars, Guerilla will feature an open-world and the game will be controlled from a Third-Person perspective. That's right, it's another Grand Theft Auto clone - but this one is set on Mars! It will also "expand the signature destruction elements of the series", so expect plenty of next-gen environment destruction. Expect the game to be released sometime during THQ's financial year of 2009 (which begins April 2008). We look forward to seeing more.

I was SOOOOO excited about this title finding its way onto the PS3 until i read that it was not going to be a FPS. Now i'm heartbroken, why would you mess with something like that?
I will still stay up to date on the progress of the 3rd installment of Red Faction but now all of my high expectations have been thrown out of the window and squashed. Maybe thats a good thing, especially since it probably wont be as good as the 1st two.
My friends & I STILL play the multiplayer split screen on Red Faction2!

The first game was awesome especially the ending. I never played the second game but this game sounds awesome! I love GTA style games and they all bring something different to the table so I'm actually looking forward to this. Any word if this will pick up the story from 2? If so then I need to play 2 or at least read up on the story.

DON'T MAKE IT A 3RD PERSON SHOOTER!!!
God damn, this has really pissed me off! When i first heard about the game, i was absolutly drop-jaw wowzomg i cannot wait! I even played the first red faction again because i couldn't wait.
It's a first person shooting game because everybody loves blowing things up in first person; hence Red Faction and Blacks success.
Keep it a first person shooter on mars, perhaps where you must recruit your own Guerilla fighting force and re-take mars.
But please THQ, please keep it a FPS.

So are you basically saying all games should change incase theres too many of them? I love FPS's, Resistance, R6 Vegas, COD4 and Orange Box. Because they were released at different times, i wouldn't say that was overkill. And i will be buying R6V:2 and Resistance 2 when thats released and then, lets say RF3 is FPS (I know it won't), i will be buying that on release. Thats top quality FPS over the span of 2 years. And like many gamers, they will only buy the FPS that appeals to them, and look how many games of the same genre are on 360? If anything i welcome more because thats more choice for the consumer. I personally, will buy what appeals to me.
Do you think Gran Turismo should become a plane racer because its done cars too much?
I, like many others, love top quality FPS's, and Red Faction 1 and 2 were top FPS's. Not the best granted, but they left me and others some of the greatest gaming moments ever!
Which is why i do not want RF3 to be set in 3rd person, because i think destroying the sceneary in FPS was amazing in black and RF2 and i want it to return in RF3

"and look how many games of the same genre are on 360". No shit, that's why people call it the FPSbox. It's boring, they don't have the same diversity the PS3 does and I don't expect this to change. It exists in the same ghetto PC gaming is in because nobody bothers to innovate, they just make what sells, over and over and over.
"Do you think Gran Turismo should become a plane racer because its done cars too much?"
Is there a point there? Sure, if there were 18 other racing games, you might have one. But there aren't. And with GT5 there doesn't need to be unless they're slightly or vastly different (Motorstorm).
However, this year we've got MGS4, Haze, Resistance2, R6Vegas2, Fracture, Army of Two...the list goes on and on. Resistance2 I'll bite on because the first one was so good and the multiplayer is still super popular. Fracture, maybe because it finally brings something new to the genre.
Personally I hope that more devs take chances with "risky" games instead of feeding us the same crap EA-style with minor upgrades every year. You should too.

I agree devs should take on more risky games (Home, fl0w, Echochrome) as for a £300ish console, it’s what owners deserve. But I also think many games should also stick to their routes. I mean yeah defiantly add innovation; MGS4: Online keeps that classic 3rd person stealthy shooter people love whilst adding the new tactical game play with the SOP system. Splinter Cell: Double Agent brought in the new trust system while keeping that invisible super spy feel.
This year, we have many great FPS’s heading to our consoles. Me and you shall be buying what appeals to us and everybody else can buy what appeals to them. I will be buying R6:V2, you will be buying Facture, somebody else will be buying Haze and overall, you get a lot of satisfied consumers. Even if the 360 has loads of FPS’s, there is something for everybody; don’t fancy Halo go buy Dead Rising.
When I first heard about Red Faction 3, I was expecting an FPS where you can destroy the scenery till your hearts content. So yes, I was disappointed when I heard it would a 3rd person because I would have loved an FPS where you can destroy everything. When I see trailers and in-game shots, I may change my opinion completely and say “this is going to be the game of the year!” I don’t know yet. I was just disappointed that’s all. It just sounds a bit like mercenaries 2 on mars now.
Oh and the Gran Turismo point. I was just saying because there is many racing games (Sega Rally, Burnout, CM: Dirt) Gran Turismo should stop being a racer and be something different. Like how there are many FPS’s, Red Faction should then change to a 3rd person.

I know the same company made Saint's Row, but that sounds a bit unnecessary.

Openworld game on Mars?Third person? How can they do this. Red Faction is a great game in the memory of gamers. Shooting a dude through a wall is fun. Making a hole fun. Looking at the back of a head not fun.

3rd person perspective is the same way Ratchet, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, DMC4 and MGS4 are played, which allows for much more interaction with the environment and better character control while still providing the option of first person perspective when using different weapons or gaming modes. Lets not rip into this game until we can see some gameplay videos because other 3rd person games on the PS3 are f*cking awesome.

"Sci-fi shooter with terrain altering environment played from the 3rd person perspective..."
...and this is going to differentiate itself from LucasArts' "Fracture" how?
Loved the first RF, liked the second, let's just hope they can bounce back instead of driving the series into the ground...
