We would never have expected 2008 to be the year of the fighter. Just off the top of our heads, we've got
Tekken 6,
Soul Calibur IV,
BlazeBlue,
Battle Fantasia,
Street Fighter IV, and
King of Fighters XII on their way. That's an amazing lineup not just for console gamers, but for those who go to tournaments to show off their skill -- this is unprecedented. Many of these games are brand new or with greatly tuned mechanics. The
above video of the
King of Fighters XII video shows you what to expect here -- the key note is their return to 2D high-res sprites. Good for SNK. Of course, we'd love a higher quality video, but for now, this will do.

Revamped sprites, particle effects, and a different feel to it,
I'll pick this over SF4 anyday!

Another Marvel vs. Capcom game would make a tear come to my eye. Too bad it will never happen because Capcom sucks now.

Good call. I also forgot Arcana Hearts 2, but then again, this was just off the top of my head =)
An impressive list by anyone's standards, eh?

Samurai Shodown Anthology, Soul Calibur 4, Street Fighter 4, Tekken 6, King of Fighters 12. This is a great time to be a PS3 owner and an even better time to be a fighting game fan like myself. :)

SNK has been #2 to Capcom to me but this move really impressed me. They chose to keep their fans happy by not messing with a working formula so thanks SNK!
If I want 3d, I'm going to Namco; I hope Capcom gets the message!

Regardless of perspective, Tekken/SC/VF...are a completely different breed of game to anything Capcom has ever put out. I can actually see little reason why these games would not function in 3D as long as they are kept on a 2D plane. Street Fighter Ex was fine..just a had a slightly dated roster and fighting mechanic. Apart from 3 which was horrible.
I must admit I expected a more beautiful 2D game from SNK regardless. Why does 2D have to be retro? I am sure they could push out some astounding graphics now.

Argh why is there no edit button on this thing! I meant dated fighting mechanic and odd roster.

Was that game running on an XBox 360? A lot of background noise IMO xD
Just kidding :p
I'm not a great fan of the genre but I know someone who is, he is going to like this news :) Oh yes...
And while the video isn't of very good quality, I love the 2D sprites, they look awesome. The effects are very cool as well...
