The two first games utilised "Geo Mod" technology to allow players to damage the environment in realtime - something that's almost taken for granted nowadays but that was revolutionary back in 2001. We have great memories of creating cubby-holes and sniper points deep in the walls and waiting for an unsuspecting opponent to saunter past. Needless to say, we're psyched that Red Faction III is in development, despite the lack of any real details or even an official announcement.

sweet i love that game. :) i agree with jtedesco33 i dont think it will be exclusive to ps3. although thats probably what i'll buy it for, since i don't have many ps3 games.

Alright, am I the only one who felt decidedly underwhelmed after playing the first Red Faction? I followed that game like a zealot, reading all the news, previews and whatever else I could get my hands on, only to be massively disappointed when I actually got it. The environments weren't properly destructible, they were just a gimmick to solve a particular puzzle, or get around a particular door. Anything else just had a minor dent or decal. Even if you blew a hole into the side of a cave and hid there waiting for an enemy, he would still be able to see you as though you were in plain sight. It was much easier to just shoot enemies rather than attempting to collapse a ceiling onto them. The effect was nearly purely cosmetic. Multiplayer environments were more destructable, but the framerate became so bad that it was unplayable.
Anyway, whatever. With the improvements in hardware hopefully they can deliver what was promised 7 years ago. Although given THQ's recent... activity, one wonders...

I think I will pick up the 3rd one, but if it comes out on 360 I will likely not get the PS3 version, but if it is exclusive I will get the PS3 version.
