EA recently released estimates on how it believes this year's hardware sales will shape up in North America and Europe, and while it thinks the Wii will outsell everything, it pushed the PS3 past the Xbox 360, claiming a respectable second place. In total, EA says the PS3 will push 9.5 to 11 million units compared to only 6 to 8 million from the Xbox 360.
Moreover, according to EA's estimates, the PS3 will dominate the Xbox 360 in Europe, with the PS3 selling between 5 and 6 million units, and the Xbox 360 managing a paltry 1.5 to 2.5 million. We should all keep in mind, however, that these are just estimates and should by no means be taken as fact. But we did hear that some top EA execs had the Giants over the Patriots in the Super Bowl, so who knows?

Well they are only stating what the trend has been showing at vgchartz for some time now, that the PS3 is outselling the Xbox360 when looking at the world as a whole. Always nice to see that the game publishers are aware of how things are developing too though :)

EA is the biggest pimp in the gaming industry, perhaps the biggest pimp of all companies. They only care about making money (which all companies do), but they will take their games and whore them on as many platforms as possible and ignore little things like quality control, innovation, and well, excellence. EA didn't see the PS3 as being a money maker in 2007 so they snubbed the platform and opted to release sh*ty ports of 360 games hoping for a few bucks for us apparent PS3 suckers. Now that PS3 sold 5 million in 3 months, well, its a whole new ballgame. EA is starting to see dollar signs and after pissing off the PS3 install base last year they are looking to change their tune. The problem is the damage has been done and unless EA starts offering some pretty damn good PS3 exclusives and decent ports (perhaps even develop for the PS3 first and port to the Xbox) I don't think I am going to run out and buy Tiger Woods or Madden 2009.

Yeah, hopefully since EA realizes the PS3 is doing a lot better, they'll start focusing on developing on PS3 rather than developing on 360 and shoddily porting to PS3.

Maybe now they will make an acceptable version of Madden for the PS3 for God's sake. Madden 07 and 08 were pathetic jokes.
I am giving EA one more chance this year with Madden 09. If it sucks, Madden is done with me. I love football, but I am not going to pay money for junk software.

According to VGChartz, the PS3 outsold the 360 everywhere except in the US during 2007. The US is still one of the biggest markets, but europe and "everywhere else" seem to be similar in size. I think the PS3 will easily outsell the 360 worldwide in 2008, and will close the gap in sales in the US, maybe overtaking the 360, maybe not. if FF13 comes out, I'd almost be certain of it.

And if you own a 360, any cross-console game is better on the 360. So it really all comes down to exclusives and who's got the best ones.
