One thing to mention before we continue -- this game is by Arc System Works, the genius designers behind the
Guilty Gear franchise. Their new game,
BlazeBlue, seems to take a lot of nods from that series. Both appear to be in amazing 2D, both have similar character designs, and both will probably drive you crazy with the amount of stuff happening at once.
BlazeBlue, however, is apparently exclusive to the PS3.
The person who uploaded the Famitsu scans, KingJ2002, claims the game actually follows
Guilty Gear XX, taking place ten years after that title. We think that's hogwash. If anyone can read Japanese, let us know if this is accurate or not. We'll pretend it's a new game built with different mechanics in place so there's a new way to play 2D fighters.
Check out the scans over at
NeoGAF at tell us what you think!

Doesn't say anything about being related to Guilty Gear. Only mention of GG I see is that its from the same makers, Arc System Works. Then again the scans are blurry and have so much glare its tough to see.
Also, the game appears to be called "Blae Blue" according to the katakana.

2D fighter on next gen, I wouldnt want anyone but arc system handling it. The GG games are some of my favorite around, no other fighter can even compare.

I already finished Tobal 2 on my PS1 from Japan. SquareEnix owns that series. They will not translate it because they are too busy remaking Final Fantasy $$. I would wish for a remake of Bushido Blade, but it will never be. Tobal 2 is a great game and still looks good on my HDTV.

My japanese is terrible, and I'm way too lazy to look up kanji. The story section of the scans says nothing about guilty gear, as far as i can tell.
I'm way too lazy to properly translate another interesting part, but the game uses the guilty gear system, with a twist. The twist is when you get knocked out, you can still perform some sort of special combo. You are even able to knock yourself out to perform this combo. I presume it brings you back to life if you land it well or something, I'm not sure about that part though.

@ Terry..
You are right, the title is called "Blae Blue".
Some info:
• Set around 2199 AD. Possible contiuation...who knows.
• Approx 10 characters for the game. Scan introduces 3 characters.
- ラグナ=ザ=ブラッドエッジ (Raguna The Blood Edge)
- ジン=キサラギ (Jin Kisaragi)
- ノエル=ヴァーミリオン (Noel Vermillion)
• 3 button system. (light, medium heavy) + EX button (super I guess).
• You can attack the opponent while they are on the ground.
• All Stage illustrations will be in HD.
• It is set to come out on arcade (Taito Typex2)
That's about all I find...Looks great. :)

The Katakana actually spells out to : BU+RE+I =Burei / BU+RU- (" - " means to extend the " I ") = Buru-.
Bureiburu- is the Katakana to the right below of the English Blazblue of with I'm guessing the designers are playing around with the "E" & "B" by combining them for the title.
The mention of it going to the PS3 is only in the commentaries without references below the picture. There's no mention whatsoever of that in those 4 pages. I've seen this magazine before in that it covers only arcade games. Since this is a preview for a Brand New arcade game, I find it odd that they would give notice for it's eventual port-over to any console so quickly.

2D fighting game on PS3? I hope this means that Fire Pro Wrestling for PS3 is a possibility, though FP for the PSP would be welcome too.
