PS3 Fanboy

i tipped this to Joystiq earlier (and of course they didnt post it with their damn 360 bias...) but anyway, the story i saw had it being able to support up to 3200 x 2400.

Emulation on the PS3, particularly 3d apps, will be crippled forever unless Sony allows access to the Nvidia chip. The hypervisor prevents this now, and for the forseeable future. There's a decent linux app from Transgaming that allows you to install and play tons of Windows games in Linux...so if 2 impossible things happen (transgaming tech ported to powerpc branch which the PS3 uses and the hypervisor allowing hardware access to the RSX chip) then we'll be good to go.

Only works if your TV is near your computer, which mine's not. Also only works if you want to switch cables when you play at your desk (a pain) or get a switcher (expensive).

Of course, this one requires that you install linux on your PS3 and boot to that... so there's still a significant amount of hassle if you've just gotten done playing a PS3 game.

^ You don't need to switch cable, nor a switch. Besides switches aren't expensive, you can grab one at monoprice for $15 or so. I have my desktop and PS3 connected to my 40" Sony Bravia by HDMI and DVI. You could also get a DVI-HDMI cable for $6, once again on the aforementioned site. Why waste electricity using both the computer and PS3 on at the same time.

I believe this is using streaming video, like wmv or something, and I think vnc simply uses updating images instead of streaming video, suck as a new jpg a few times a second. Using streaming video, you can get a lot of more images per second than vnc, so a lot less lag.

Technically it's kinda streaming video. Without reading the article I'd guess it's the X video server outputting to a remote terminal, which is very, very fast.
