If there is one thing that PlayStation 3 owners like even more than games -- it's porn. Okay, well maybe not *all* owners, but enough to convince the formerly HD-DVD exclusive porno company Digital Playground that they should be releasing their titles on Blu-ray as well, starting with the big budget smash hit, Pirates. As DP founder Joone (yes he has a one word name, evidently he doesn't want his mommy to know what he does) explained, "A lot of people were e-mailing that bought a PlayStation 3 and they were basically saying, 'When are you guys going to release Blu-ray?'"While the news of naughty films on Blu-ray isn't exactly breaking news, it is interesting for a number of reasons. First off, Joone is the fellow that oh-so-long-ago said that Sony was blocking them from releasing their 'adult entertainment' movies on Blu-ray. Evidently, this isn't the case any more as Joone has changed his tone and said the real problem originally was the price of producing Blu-ray movies (which is quite a bit higher than HD-DVD movies).
The other thing that is interesting is that this is the first time that we have heard of the PlayStation 3 explicitly causing such an increased demand for HD movies that a studio changes its exclusivity stance in the HD format wars. For a long time, the HD-DVD camp has said that PlayStation 3 owners don't buy movies. Well if porn is any indicator, looks like PlayStation 3 owners luuuv their high-def movies -- as long as there are naked people in them at least.

Sony never had the power, and never will, to 'block' anyone from releasing anything on Blu-ray.
Why? BECAUSE ITS NOT A PROPRIETARY SONY FORMAT. It's a format created by a group of companies- one of which happens to be Sony.
Everyone in the Blu-Ray group would have to vote yay or nay or whatever on the issue. Sony is just the only one making fuss because they're applying the same sentiment toward pornography as they are UMD porn, AO rated games on their systems, and the like. Sony just eventually gave up the whining and realized that this is one of the drawbacks to not having a proprietary system like they're used to.
Either way, this is just another reminder to all the idiots still calling Blu-ray a proprietary Sony format, THAT IT IS NEITHER.

I never tire of reminding the Sony haters that more manufacturers developed the "proprietary" (sic) BD format than did the HD-DVD format. But, alas, it is one of those things some people conveniently forget immediately after being told.
Technological revisionism is alive and well (the UK press praising Apple for "introducing" video to PMPs in the form of the video iPod is my favourite example).

Pretty sure it's just going to be a coincidence this time though. I've bought a lot of movies on BluRay, but porn won't be part of my collection.
I mean, hell, I've obviously got the internet.

Porn ALWAYS comes up whenever people build an argument for why HD-DVD will win
eh, porn is one arena where digital distribution is already predominant

Sony wasn't blocking porn from appearing on Blu-Ray discs, they just didn't want to have *their own* pressing plants produce any X-rated material for the adult industry.

honestly though, as long as the internet exists, nobody really cares about dishing out money for high definition movies.
