Hardware

If you're looking to get a new PS3 system, there's one clear choice: the PS3 40GB Spider-man 3 Movie Pack. You'll lose backwards compatibility with PS2 games, but there should more than enough PS3 content to keep you busy in the coming months. At under $400, it's one of the cheapest Blu-ray players around, which is great for the movie buff. With built-in wireless and free access to the PSN, the price-reduced 40GB PS3 has features that some of the competing gaming systems still don't have.
Accessories

Complete your media center experience with the PS3 by picking up this Bluetooth remote. There's nothing wrong about using a standard PS3 controller for playback, but the remote certainly makes the experience a lot more intuitive.

This is going to be hard to find. The rumble-ready PS3 controller is seriously in-demand. If you can get one without selling a kidney, it'll be a worthwhile find. American versions of the controller will be available next year.

Hope you're not planning on using standard composite 480i cables with your PS3. Ensure full HD visuals with HDMI cables. Don't buy these at retail stores: you should never pay more than $20 for cables.
Peripheral Gaming

This addictive card game includes the Eye, Sony's next-gen camera peripheral. The game is fantastic, rekindling the inner nerd in all of us. Seeing creatures come to life from real cards is something any dork will appreciate. The Eye is also a great piece of tech and will allow you to play new games, such as Operation Creature Feature and video chat using the PS3's simple (and sexy) chat feature.

Fans of arcade shooters will love Time Crisis 4, which comes bundled with Namco's new Guncon 3. This gun uses new Wii Remote-like sensor bars for greater accuracy than before. There's really no other alternative so far this generation.

For the music fan that always wanted to be in a rock band. This pricey set includes support for two guitars, a drum set and a microphone so that your giftee and three friends can get together and start jammin'. The ultimate four player party game? Perhaps. The huge box that houses the game will certainly make this gift an eye-opener.
Software

This is the definitive multiplayer game for PS3 fans. Easily the best FPS game on the platform, Call of Duty 4 features both a brilliant single player campaign, and fantastic multiplayer options. Four player split screen and a hefty online community makes this a must for those that love online gaming.

Ratchet & Clank brings beautiful Pixar-like visuals and easy, accessible gameplay -- perfect for kids and adults. The cartoony graphics are among the best on the system, and easily stands out as the best children's game on the platform. Anyone, young and old, will enjoy this stocking stuffer.

It's Indiana Jones in video game form. This classic adventure will satiate both hardcore and casual gamers alike, with its accessible controls and level design. Hardcore gamers will love the challenging gun fights, and casual gamers will love the beautiful vistas. Easily the best looking game on the system, with a fun cast of lovable characters, to boot.

Get this for the hardcore gamer. The game is known for its notorious difficulty that will undoubtedly frustrate the casual gamer. Hardcore gamers that love to share bragging rights will love the relentless difficulty, elegant battle system and overall ninja-ness of the game.

If you're looking for a value gift, go for Warhawk. This is an online-only game that offers a perfectly balanced experience in every game. Up to four players can play on one machine, making it great for parties at home. Make sure the PS3 has a decent connection to the internet, though.
Blu-ray Movies

Who knew the world could be so beautiful? There's only one way to watch this series, and it is in HD. This breathtaking series will give you a newfound appreciation of the planet we live on, and has demonstrated the incredible power of the PS3 more than anything else this year.

All four Die Hard movies in one box. That's a preposterous amount of testosterone! Get some MENERGY! There's so much masculine energy in this collection, you'll be able to hyperkick people in the face. And babies, you'll make so many babies. 400 of them!

Three Spider-man movies, all in HD. This is the best way to experience the most successful superhero franchise of all time, and it's exclusively on Blu-ray.

I don't see why Ninja Gaiden: Sigma was included there. It's the most terrible game I've played since Chameleon Twist for the Nintendo 64. Graphics are terrible, the camera is terrible... the fighting system is terrible, the graphics are terrible. 3/10 for this game.

I have no disputes with anything on the list except for the blu-ray selection. Planet Earth is definitely a must-buy. But the Die Hard and Spider-Man sets are definitely not. In the spider trilogy, movies 1 and 2 come with ZERO special features meanwhile the third installment is packed to the brim with them. I bought part 3 by itself and will wait for 1 and 2 to be released with their special features (if ever). As for the Die Hard Quadrilogy, the latest installment Live Free or Die Hard is the theatrically released PG-13 version as opposed to the Unrated version currently on SD DVD. Why would Fox not put the unrated version on Blu-Ray? Probably to make people double-dip. But I'll just wait for the proper release.

This is an excellant cable for the money. You are just wasting your money spending 200 dollars on brand name cables.

That depends. I'm not an expert, but from what I understand:
For HDMI cables, your free to buy the $7 cables you can find. Everything's digital so 1's and 0's can't get distorted.
But for component cables (i.e. if you don't have HDMI inputs), and if you have like a large 60" rear projection TV or something, its best to get some well-shielded cables. Quality actually shows in the type of component cables you get, because the signal is no longer digital. It can get distorted quite easily. So in this case, its best to maybe get a set of monsters or something a little less costly.

www.mycablemart.com has the best prices I've seen on HDMI cables. As for the price of component cables, you only need the crazy expensive ones if you're running the wire a long way, because as the wire gets longer, there's potential for the signal to get weaker. If you're going the usual 6-10 feet from PS3 to TV or cable box to TV, any standard component wires will work.
