PS3 firmware 2.01 is now available via Network Update. This minor update will fix a few glitches noted in the big 2.00 release. Hopefully, those that have reported game freezing, and other performance issues, will be able to sigh a breath of relief.
Update: Here's the "official" word on what's new:
- Improved stability when playing some PS3 format software
- Improved stability of some system applications, including the Internet Browser and Information Board
- Improved stability of the upscaler for PlayStation format software when played on PS3 models that are backwards compatible
- The new Remote Start feature has been changed to avoid an unintentional power-on. Remote Start was introduced in firmware version 2.00 to enhance the Remote Play feature by enabling users to turn on a PS3 system remotely with their PSP system from an Internet hotspot.

I didn't have any problems in the first place. Too bad there's no in-game messaging :(

Thats the second FW update this month and Im still not seeing the most requested feature by all PS3 owners, in game XMB. Is it that hard to apply part of a core for such a simple task which WAS possible even before the release of the PS3...?

I'm not having any problems at all...hmm.
And about in game XMB...maybe it's a game to game thing. Smackdown Vs Raw 08 allows you to view your frineds list and access all features of the friends list from in game. Of course only when you go to online and are in a room but it still allows it.

Stevie, it's a bummer your parents weren't pro-abortionists. That said, I do have to say I've noticed some weird problems going on. I can't seem to expand certain parts of the xmb and tversity seems to broken. Anyone else?

Sounds a lot like the errors people got on a past firmware update. Here's what sorted my problem out after I updated and I couldn't access the PSN Store or use the Internet Browser.
- Clear the browser Cache: Simple. Start Internet Browser, go to the little options bit and clear the cache, totally rinse the thing. Should help immediately.

I haven't tried TVersity since 2.0 so I can't confirm that I'm having the same problem. I'll have to look into that tomorrow...

lol, it's not as simple a devoting a bit of one core's processing power. It's really a matter of memory. To be able to always have to XMB available or be able to msg people in game you need to always have that app running in memory. Doing that leaves less for developers to use for their game. The PS3 OS is already bloated vs the 360s and they have been working on freeing up memory for these exact reasons. That article was on PS3fanboy too.
