Eric Lempel has written up a new post on the PlayStation.Blog in order to tell everyone that a new firmware update is on its way. 2.01 will be available in a few days and will "improve the stability" of the PlayStation 3. Lempel assures us there are specifics to be learnt at a later date and they will let the community know closer to the time.
We know that the PS3 will be receiving an update to allow its Blu-Ray features to support profile 1.1 at some point in the future. We also know that DivX support will be included in a future firmware update. Will these things be included in 2.01? Your guess is as good as ours. We'll let you know as soon as we find out more.

#2: Funny, mine never updated at ALL before 2.0, I thought the function wasn't properly implemented yet since I've had an empty list there for half a year.

I know mine has froze twice since the update and my PSP has froze once while testing the remote access via the internet. It happened when I shutdown the PS3 via my PSP.

Although I hope it has both of those things, I doubt its either.
It also depends on what core changes were made in 2.00. They could be adding everything or nothing.

I would like to be able to remote into my PS3 While It's already logged in, say in Folding@Home or after you've been streaming a movie and lost the connection. It's like it's a one shot deal.

No way will DivX be in 2.01, I imagine it's just going to be to fix the network problems some people have reported since 2.0
It's starting to turn into the PSP with all these funtionality-less upgrades, sigh.

@10: What's wrong with the upscaling? I thought that was fixed months ago.

I actually appreciate the PSP updates and don't think they are useless. And I thought the last update for PS3 was decent. No crashing issues and no players met problems.

Ok, thanks...
I had the same freezing issue while playing COD4 the other day. Made me a bit anxious. The freezing hasnt happened since I was playing Oblivion back in March.

When I'm in remote play, I can't view any of my videos anymore. It just gives me a black screen while the green memory stick led blinks like it's loading something. I could never use circle to get out of it either. I'm forced to turn off my ps3 to end remote play. It's weird, never had this problem.
Fortunately, after turning it off via psp, the ps3 doesn't turn on again seconds later as some posters have stated.

I have the same problem and turning on my tv actually makes the psp function again...ya I know so weird. It defeats the purpose of being able to remotely access your ps3 videos with your tv off but that's the current work around. Hopefully it gets addressed in the 2.01 patch.

@1 yeha mine does,. not much but it does,. I'm certain it's related to the custom Themes, and the Information bar,. cuase the lil freeze's occur i've noticed alot whe nthe Bar is refreshing or reloading after coming out of an area on the XMB where the information bar is shut down,.,. either way it wasn't a concern for me,. that added blu-ray profile and DivX support would be awesome though

Jesus Christ, the censorship in this comment section is growing to an astonishing level. I can't even write the name of the new game As. C. supposedly because the filter thinks it's an insult!
anyway my point was the new As. C. game that came out 3 days a go(this is ridiculous, I really can't write the name of the game!) has some serious problems. It keeps freezing when the white page comes up to load or when I turn to a corner or bump into civilians. Furthermore Warhawk again has started to freeze at least twice per day in various places. This new update has been a nightmare for me so far; cool futures but overall has caused me nothing but frustration.

With a title like 2.01, I don't expect anything but bug-fixes. Every little step towards Divx is a plus, though.
