Many have experienced issues playing Call of Duty 4 on PS3. Why? Infinity Ward is reporting that the PS3 online multiplayer is being "slammed" by the incredible demand for the game. In a statement to CVG: "The only real issue is that the servers we're getting hit really hard, especially with the launch in Europe doubling that traffic, just something that requires optimising on the server side and we've been working with the PSN COD4 Server team from the moment it started having issues assisting any way we can to help them get them up to speed faster."
The issue is with the servers, and won't require a patch to the game. The game, which has completely destroyed this blogger's weekend, is an absolute thrill ride that any PS3 owner should experience.

Easy solution:
Switch all the Xbox 360 servers to PS3 ones. Everybody wins.
Did they expect this game to not sell at all on PS3?

I have been one of those who've been "slamming" the servers over the weekend. I've been having a great time with tyhe games excellent multiplayer. It really hasn't been that hard to find a game either.

I was under the impression that Microsoft runs there own servers and that Sony forces developers or publishers to devote their servers to multiplayer. Is this not the case?

I've also experienced long wait times to "Download Game Data" when I play Multiplayer.
But what pissed me off the most is how I couldn't run any split screen games because it would freeze the PS3. Apparently it was a corrupt game file, so I had to delete all my saved games (I had already beat the game) to fix the problem.

@Frosty
Xbox Live is mostly peer-to-peer with a few games having there own servers, but Microsoft don't host online games server's. Just the Live service itself. So, games companies must make there own servers are just rely on the peer-to-peer.

@3: Microsoft doesn't have servers, they force peer to peer gaming on everyone (great for a pay service huh?) but Sony tells devs they can take any route they want. PS3 developers can allow peer to peer gaming or they can have dedicated servers (see Warhawk).
That's the main reason why Xbox players always cry about lag in nearly every game. COD4 might be different but most of the time, Xbox gaming = p2p on someone's crappy DSL line.

This could be spun both ways:
A. Awesome PS3 must be doing GOOD!
B. PSN suxorz it needs dedicated servers like Live!
Probably a bit of both.
I'm not too worried about this. I am a little upset that I have been playing longer than a friend who is a higher rank than me now, and whom sucks at console FPS games, but im at work right now so as long as it's okay by the time I get home then im not crying about it.

I love the online but it could use an update.
Like another filter for specific maps, not just specific game types

The "Bog" map always bogs down. (sorry for the pun) I mean ALWAYS. I usually vote to skip it. PSN users STILL don't communicate, mics or not. Tactics rule in games like this. It took a while for guys to figure it out in R6. As far as your buddy ranking up, he's probably playing a different game type to earn more points. Sick multiplayer going. I tried to go back to Warhawk after a COD marathon. It seemed really slow...

no split-screen online multiplayer is a big bumer. My friend and I play Warhawk all the time online, and I got COD4 for some variety in our online playing, but noooooo. :(

"B. PSN suxorz it needs dedicated servers like Live!"
Only problem with that statement is that live doesn't use dedicated servers. it uses P2P in most cases. one exception is EA that has a deal with Microsoft to allow dedicated servers. but for the most part live is a p2p service. PSN lets the devs pick in COD4's case both versions use the exact same matchmaking P2P system. they just didn't dedicate enough servers to matchmaking in PS3's version. Notice how usually you don't lag in game despite the server load (in most cases)? Thats because you playing on someones PS3. This is actually kind of good news because obviously they sold more than expected and it appears they are on top of it :)

Been having problems on ps3 myself. It's not just getting knocked off the game servers, because a minute later I get knocked all the way off PSN. Very irritating when it happens every 2-3 maps.
On 360, it connects great, but lag is a problem. I've been shooting guys in doorways, only to get killed. When I watch the kill cam, it shows the guy wasn't even in the doorway anymore, he was off to the side, and I look like a retard still shooting at the doorway.
Hope it all gets smoother soon. Great game though.
