Special deal on Eye of Judgment cards at GAME

If you're a UK gamer ready to get your Eye of Judgment on, then you know that you're probably due for a lot of card collecting. This can generally be quite a bother, especially with the packs selling anywhere between £3 and £8, depending if you're getting a booster or starter pack, respectively. Well, perhaps we can help quell the notion you'll dole out a lot of cash -- UK retailer GAME is offering a special deal on their cards if you buy more when you pick up the game. The price will get sliced almost in half, rendering the fee for added card excellence down to £1.50 and £5. It's a pretty good deal, so if you plan on getting into the game, might as well score a few extra card packs while the gettin' is good.

1. This is good news for those who want to get a decent deck fast! I'll probably stock up on some extra packs which my kids can open over the following weeks to boost their decks... Nice one GAME, got a good feeling about Eye of Judgment!

2. Now that it has been proven that colour photocopies and print-outs are recognized by the game, I don't see many people actually buying packs - which will definitely kill revenue for the game. There's just no point in buying them when 80% of your opponents online will own every card, or all of the best ones, due to print-outs/photocopies.

3. @Ithilis

It's not that trivial to cheat and besides that, it's very much likely they'll issue an update for the problem.

4. To Napalm -

No amount of software patching would be able to fix this. The only way to fix it would be to change the encoding on the cards themselves, making it harder to replicate.

This is something that will not be addressed until a new expansion comes out with a different form of encoding on it or a re-issue of the first set is made. Neither will truly fix the problem, though, for the following reasons:

- Re-issuing the original cards would alienate people that actually bought and own legitimate copies.

- Changing the encoding on the cards in a future expansion doesn't change the fact that the original set has been compromised. Unless they ban all of the original cards once the new set comes out, people will still be using their copies along with their legitimate cards from the new set.

I used to play Magic a LOT, and I was interested in this game until I stumbled upon this discovery. Online play has now been ruined in my mind, and the purchase of booster packs seems pointless. Innovative game, sure, but now it just seems like a waste of money.

6. Oh and incidentally: The price for Eye of Judgment in Sweden is more than three times the price in the US. I'll be importing mine.

7. Still can't find EoJ in stores anywhere. Most stores I've checked have said they have no plans to carry it, including GameStop/EB. WTF?!

8. @7 You got Hollywood Video/Game Crazys nearby? They told me today that they'd have it tomorrow since there was a shipping problem (why they didn't have it today). Gamestop was saying they probably wouldn't get them unless you preordered it.

9. @Ithilis:
Is the situation so different from Magic the Gathering? Nothing stopped you from photocopying the cards in Magic either and playing with the photocopies. And as for people cheating with photocopies they need to be pretty good for you not to see it online when playing.
