Rat Race, the newly revealed episodic game exclusive for the PSN, certainly has some potential. The trailer above, however, doesn't exactly fill us with confidence. Whilst watching it we had vague flashbacks to The Sims 2. Despite that, we're excited about episodic gaming coming to the PSN. That's real episodic gaming, by the way. Not Valve-style episodic.
As far as we know, no gameplay details for Rat Race have really been divulged. Until we learn more we're going to reserve judgment. How about you?
Rat Race trailer somehow reminds us of the Sims

(Page 1)2. I think that this could be brilliant - These are just the kind of games the PS3 really needs if it's going to compete with the Xbox - Those guys seem to be all about 14year old fantasies of death and destruction - Just how many FPS and RTS games along with adrenaline and hi-octane sports does a console need?
Just as the Wii has shown - what will help sell the PS3 is offering something different. Games like this (if and it's a big IF it's done properly) along with Little Big Planet etc will provide a profitable alternative!

3. I place this on the o-so-high pedestal right next to Go!Sports Ski and SuperRubaDub. Say it with me; "MEH".

5. Hmm gotta disagree with you, Coop. I dont think LBP and especially Rat Race are going to sell consoles. FPS games and hi-octane sports are what sells systems. A lot of people bought ps3 for resistance, and more will buy it for MGS. Both of which are shooter games, so your argument is somewhat ignorant. And what are you talking about when you mention RTS games, Xbox has like 2 doesn't it? It's hardly a large part of their portfolio.

7. No Frank my point is that all those FPS em ups sell strongly to all the adrenaline testosterone and soda fuelled teenage boys who love killing things - Trouble is most of those guys have already got Xbox's and those titles are generally going to be cross platform products at least if not Xbox and PC exclusives. Products like these could convince a lot of potential and current Wii purchasers to consider a console that does next gen but also offers something other then shooting people or driving very very fast and smashing things up.
Look at the success of the DS and the type of sotware being sold for it. Don't get me wrong I love FPS RTS and RPG games as much as anyone - It's just that this is a market Xbox doesn't really cater for and that Sony can.

8. I don't see what "market" you're referring to. Quirkly little games? Sony has a few arcade titles, and 360 has tons of arcade titles as well (since its been out longer).
I'm not bashing either company, but I'm not sure what market you're referring to when you say that Sony can cater to it and Microsoft can't.

9. I can't believe they even released these trailers. They should have kept the script a secret to at least sucker a few people into playing it.

10. i think it's awesome that PS3 is becoming the "something for everyone" console. sure, it's not selling well now, but it has the ability to attract the "kill anything that moves" gamers (Resistance, Warhawk, Killzone 2, MGS4), quirky and niche gamers (EoJ, flOw, EverydayShooter), and casual camers (Rat Race, Buzz, SingStar), etc.
i love adventure games so i'm excited for this title, but i also think it stands to add to the PS3's growing "something for everyone" library. that's what helped the PS2 stand out, and hopefully it will work for the PS3.

11. Reminded me of the Sims at first as well. Which didn't really make and sense. Then I remembered Rooster Teeth's other series. Strangerhood!
