Can you tell the difference between GT5 and real life?

The graphical line separating video games and real life has been getting thinner and thinner with each passing console generation, and the Gran Turismo series always seems to be the one leading the charge.

Harnessing the PlayStation 3's graphical power, Gran Turismo 5 features the most realistic graphics to date. So real, in fact, that many people can't tell the difference between an image from GT5 and its real-life counterpart. To prove this, a Neo GAF forum member created a quiz featuring screens from GT5 and GT5 Prologue that will have you staring inches away from your monitor trying to discern the difference.

Take the quiz, and see how you do!

24. 12 out of 14. That was pretty difficult.

Can't wait to get more details about this game. Hoping they will have a demo before it comes out.

27. i got 11

28. They always do this though, show you still images and replays. I'll judge how beautiful it looks when we see gameplay!

29. lol #20 ur fukkin stupid. you cant tell the difference seriously? The only one that fooled me was the last one and that game isnt even GT5

Posted at 7:23PM on Oct 8th 2007 by Eugene

30. I found it easy, but only because I've seen the full 1080i/p (sometimes higher) resolution versions of those images. At full size, comparing them to their real-life examples suddenly presents little challenge. You can take a picture of Motocross madness from circa 1997, shrink it to that small box size, and have a hard time discerning it from the real thing. The test is sadly biased, interesting, but biased.

Posted at 7:40PM on Oct 8th 2007 by Nicholas

31. and also this is a biased comparo probably made by someone who was paid by sony, cuz they used wallpaper quality photos that were modified in photoshop so they look superficial rather than using real raw crisp photos,

so this just means ur too stupid to see the difference or ur justifying buying ur ps3 by lying to urself

32. animekid3515:
I know there are 15 questions, i even said there were 15 questions, but as 14 of them are GT related i didnt bother counting it. That'd be stupid, like the BBC showing video of KZ2 for Halo3 :P

33. 13 right!!! Which one is the formula car?

Posted at 8:02PM on Oct 8th 2007 by tmplscar

34. i got 14 out of 14 at the first try.

Believe me, GT5 series still have a loooooooooong way to go, to look like real life cars !!!

Posted at 9:54PM on Oct 8th 2007 by roy117

35. I got 13 of them and didn't cheat by looking for disclaimer text. The problem with this quiz is that we're looking at stills. If you had video of the real thing and the game in motion, the human eye could spot the game 99.9% of the time.

36. 14 out of 14, baby!

Posted at 10:23PM on Oct 8th 2007 by Galley

37. This is way too easy.

Picture 1: has text in the GT5 picture
Picture 2: shows some clouds on the car, but the air in the back is fully clouded
Picture 3: unrealistic color
Picture 4: unrealistic color
Picture 5: copyright text at the bottom and GT logo in the background
Picture 6: GT5 mechanics visible and they don't reflect on the car, despite their red clothing
Picture 7: GTHD logo clearly visible
Picture 8: GT5 hasn't got trees that detailed
Picture 9: minor difference in car color
Picture 10: GT5 uses different Xanavi-colors
Picture 11: car is too shiny
Picture 12: car color difference and AA problems
Picture 13: the background is not detailed enough
Picture 14: AA problems again and doesn't look realistic enough
Picture 15: FO:CE uses the older 2006 car, the real car is clearly newer (front wing)

38. @Mike

No, the problem is that of resolution, or the lack of.
