Blu-ray movie releases for the week of Oct. 9

October has so far been a great month for Blu-ray movie fans. Last week, we were treated to several horror titles, and we're getting a few more this week.
  • 28 Days Later
  • 28 Weeks Later
  • Surf's Up
  • Robocop
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • Twilight Zone: The Movie
  • From Hell
  • Reign Over Me
  • Nature's Journey
  • The Fly
Not only are classics like The Fly and Twilight Zone: The Movie heading our way, but we'll also get to see Tim Burton's underappreciated Edward Scissorhands in hi-def glory. If there's one movie you pick up this week, it's gotta be Scissorhands.

1. Are they releasing Blu Ray in themes for the holidays? This is for halloween and then something different for Christmas and Valentine?

2. Looking forward to the Fly personally. Halloween was good but, well, I related more to Rob Zombie's version. Isn't the Masters of Horror collections coming out this month?

3. Let's hope the Blu-Ray transfer of 28 Weeks Later is good. And I totally recommend both 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later.

...but yeah I would pick Edward Scissorhands.

4. Rob Zombie Ripped too much material from Jeffrey Dahmer's life for me to credit him.

5. OMG.. ROBOCOP!!!!... I'll buy that for a dollar.

Posted at 11:53PM on Oct 7th 2007 by phattie

6. The Fly should be awesome depending on the transfer. Some older films (Blazing Saddles I'm looking at you) don't transfer well due to the original film stock being in crap condition.

Just remember the one scene from the Fly..after Goldblum gets strong and arm wrestles the dude at the bar. Gruesome and should be even more shocking in high def.

Not to get too wordy here but I'm really loving all these classic releases mixed in with new stuff.

7. As I recall, 28 Days later was shot digitally, and it literally sucked on cinema screen, I wanted to rip my eyes off. It'd be good for TV screen but not for Cinema, and using the same logic, just buy the DVD, not the bluray version, if you are not in for the useless bragging rights to own a SD movie on a bluray (pre-upscaled to perfection :P)
p.s.
A little search confirmed my memory:

The film was shot on a miniDV camera, XL1, with an SD resolution:

8. the movie studios need to start releasing films on blu-ray before DVD. that's what they did when they tried to get people to use DVD instead of VHS.

9. So sorry to read this. You all put out some great posts, and became one of my favorite sites. Best wishes landing somewhere more permanent.

10. Don't forget, Reign Over Me has Sandler playing Shadow of the Colossus...

Posted at 8:03AM on Oct 8th 2007 by Barndo111

11. Ah, Netflix is sending me the 28 Weeks Later BD. I never get a new Blu-ray release from them. I've had it in my queue for two weeks at #1 so I would get bumped up on their send list. I'll probably get Spider-Man 3 in mid-2008 though. ;-)

12. Already preordered 28 Days Later... The rest are on my Netflix list for possible buys later..
