The PlayStation Network's upcoming downloadable title High Velocity Bowling certainly hasn't met critical acclaim so far. When Andrew played the game earlier this year, he felt the game's use of the Sixaxis controller was gimmicky and didn't successfully recreate the feel of actual bowling like that certain other bowling game.
Not only does this game attempt to get in on the hype Wii Sports has created, it also appears to have stolen the name of one of Nintendo's most disrespected and abused characters of all time. Watch the video and see if you can find who we're talking about.

Crappy graphics? Could they make it look as good as or better than Heavenly Sword? Sure. But why? It would drive up the cost of the game (added development time for creating the models, textures, and optimizing) for no good reason. The graphics are already pretty decent, I mean, look at the reflection off the wood floors, and I bet it's in full 1080p, too.
The trailer looked a lot more entertaining than certain other bowling games, so with far superior graphics as well (even if not taking 100% advantage of the PS3's power), I think it'll be great. I'll definitely pick this title up. I hope they get the motion controls down perfectly. The wii is almost too easy, which I suppose is better than being too hard.

Why did they make fun of Nintendo's most disrespected character, "Mom?"
Ooops. I had to pause 3 times to spot it and I think I played that game twice in the arcade because I sucked so bad but I liked the graphics, I couldn't believe how smoothly they made it come forward and backward, I was always a sucker for 3d...
So yeah, Joe, Nintendo.
These graphics, I don't like. The pins were not rendered interestingly, at all, nothing was. All the tex and shading was like something in a Wii game... only in higher resolution and with non-adorable characters.
The problem with this is using real humans. The Wii version looks better, because the whole thing is stylized appropriately.
What Sony needs to do is make a bowling game (and boxing, and tennis, you get the drif) utilizing your custom character from Little Big Planet, and with the more interesting lighting, textures, and physics that is that game's hallmark. We'll take it in 720p, too-- it would all be... stylized appropriately.
So count me out for this game, I'll come back when they do it like above.

I'm more concerned about the apparent physics in the game. The ball didn't seem to have any weight to it at all. But then again maybe Glass Joe has to bowl with a 6 lb ball...

Since none of you caught #7's Kingpin reference,
I curse all of you with the fate of having to watch it 24 hours straight... a fate worse than death.

At least the ps3 controller seems better for spinning the ball than the wii's.
