Square Enix seeks foreign partners for making sweet music

Japan-based RPG powerhouse Square Enix is looking to improve its revenue stream overseas, and to do that the publisher is looking for a foreign partner for the US and Europe markets.

Senior Vice President Michihiro Sasaki has told Financial Times that currently only 10 to 20 percent of the company's revenue is currently coming from overseas markets. "Within two to three years we want to make it half," he said.

Make no mistake, we're expecting Final Fantasy XIII to sell faster than a Chocobo breeds, but it'll most likely do better in Japan, where the publisher's other franchise Dragon Quest is a cultural phenomenon that only recently has seen minor success overseas. Perhaps Square Enix could appeal to Western gamers better with Ehrgeiz 2, the online first-person shooter. (We kid, we kid ... please no.)

The company is currently developing The Last Remnant, a game they dub as "for the world" and that they're planning for simultaneous release worldwide for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sasaki also commented on the PlayStation 3's sales, stating that he was a "little worried" about its performance. He also praised Nintendo for expanding the industry's demographic.

3. I'm going to preorder Last Remnant as soon as its available, it's just too bad I have to wait until next spring for it.

4. @2 I think that's just a joke ;)

5. Did you miss the joke?

Even look at the text around it

"dummy text" "insert dragon text here" "kthbai"

I have never played a Square Enix, Enix or Square game and probably never will. Me and Japanese games just don't do well.

6. Square don't worry to much about Ps3 sales just release more info and pics on
Final Fantasy 13
Final Fantasy Versus 13
Final Fantasy Agito 13
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep
Last Remnant
and other Projects

7. Once this is done I bet Ps3 sales will sky rocket but your keeping everything top secret how do you expect to sell. I'm not telling you what to do cause I'm a supporter but you guys can help out too. Release more info but not to much though keep it to a minimum.

Love you guys square keep the games coming

8. Squeenix needs to just hire a shitload of people in an overseas office then drop a Japanese boss in the mix. Their main problem is releasing what, 2 or 3 games per year?

And enough with the young boy/young girl androgynous characters. The rest of the world wants to play as a man, or a woman, not something creepy in between (FFXII I'm looking at you).

How about an RPG where you play as a hard-nosed detective, collecting facts in different cities around the globe to solve a case? You can have side games for drinking, bar fights, schmoozing with the ladies, etc. The final boss fight can have you trying to apprehend the person/monster/alien responsible for the crimes. Then throw in a twist, like you're an android laying on a table undergoing testing of a logic circuit and in reality you're the killer. OR something.

Basically Square/Enix needs more games, period.

9. Maybe it'd help if they actually released more than just Final Fantasy in Europe... and maybe possibly promote thier other games a bit more and maybe not make us wait 1+ years for a game... and update thier website... and give us a merchandise store.

And if I recall correctly the The Last Remnant trailer says "An RPG for the World"... "Simultanious Release in Japan and North America"... so it'd help if they realized that Europe is also a part of this rock we live on...

Posted at 7:43PM on Sep 24th 2007 by shaf

10. 9. Europe probably doesn't get games like everyone else coz you guys can't agree on a language. ;) Anyway since PS3 games aren't region-locked, importing works.
