TGS07: The Last Remnant trailer displays new characters

Okay, first, off, if Xenogears were getting a next-gen makeover, the dude with the eye patch in this trailer would be a pretty spot-on recreation of Bartholomew Fatima. Minus the really long ponytail. That random observation aside, this new trailer for The Last Remnant is exactly what we expected from Square Enix -- awesomeness, mostly. We've all heard the phrases "one young man's adventure begins" and "it's time to awaken" before, but that's all right. We can discount a few cliches here and there. The game looks to be a blast and getting a simultaneous release across two consoles and two countries ... well ... that's pretty cool, too. Still no solid release date, so we expect a fairly vague mid-2008 date to crop up somewhere.

2. So this is the first RPG from Square Enix using the new Unreal engine, looks really good. I'd like to see a comparison between that and the white engine for FFXIII. Either way, I'm getting both.

3. Super sick trailer... can't get used to seeing the 360 tag after the Square Enix logo though, PS3 signage would've been much more appropriate =)

4. Holy crap, door punching?
the part at the end was intense

5. Is this on both systems at the same time or does 360 get it a few months first?

Posted at 7:47PM on Sep 20th 2007 by drdre74

6. simultanious across both consoles and US/japan..id also like to point out that this trailer was rendered on Xbox 360

7. The Conqueror looks like the greatest Square badass since Sephiroth. I can already tell.

8. Seriously NOT trying to be a fnboy here... but unlike most Square games, this is really not doing it for me.

From the first video footage to this, something just seemed to be lacking. I can't put my finger on it, though.

Does anyone else agree? It just looks bland for a Square title. Is it because it is being developed for both?

Is it seperate developments? PS3 ported to 360(seems likely since it is square and they might be more familiar with developing on Sonys system)? 360 ported to the 360 (also likely given the constraints of the 360)?

9. Just officially entered my radar.

10. I don't know guys, this looks like a 360 game to me. I think I will avoid this game like I am going to avoid that new Devil May Cry 4 game. I hope square releases final fantasy 13 soon. I hope that the ff games are exclusive to sony's system, if not I will avoid them too.

11. Wow! You guys really hit it on the head with the Bart look-a-like. It's exactly what I thought when I saw that character. Glad somebody else could see that. :)

12. @8

I agree, and no I doubt it is due to the cross platforming.

The main character and his sister remind me so much of the default hume desings from FFXI.

The battle scenes look nice. I guess only time will tell whats in store.

13. @8 and @12: I think the color palette is kinda muted for the PS3. This definitely looks like it was rendered on an X360.

14. @10
:( why your gonna miss out on some good stuff.

@13
FFXIII, Little big planet, HAZE(yellow)? i dont get it. The Palettes in those game look like they pop to me.

15. Friends call me an anime freak or otaku if you will, but man I've had enough with these pretty boys as the main characters.

They should have made the characters stronger looking, more manly. Put them on a heavy armor or gears that scream 'bring the battle on'

Instead look at all these characters.. dood with the yellow hair.. it looks like he needs 2 hours just to do the hairdo. Then what's up with that silly hat.

I seriously wish those cool looking armor displayed in the latest kingdom hearts trailer would often be used in japanese RPG. I mean I love japanese RPG more than the US based.. but these characters are just.. hmm need a remodeling.

16. @10 get used to more and more cross platform games, easpecially niche games like rpgs. Developers need to do it in an attempt to curb the higher costs of development. I personally dont really mind, let everyone enjoy the title on their system of choice. As long as I can get the game on my ps3 I dont care if it comes out on the 360.
