At Kaz Hirai's keynote in Tokyo Game Show, the PlayStation Portable's Remote Play feature was demonstrated. Mainichi Demo was on display with "new PSP functionality" that allows you to turn on and off your PlayStation 3 system via Remote Play, something that wasn't possible with previous versions of the feature.
In the future multiple PSP systems will be able to connect as a hub, as seen in this slide. Remote Play is a strong focus for Sony+ gamers will play games, use the PSP as a second screen and more.

I'm wondering if that means one can START the PS3 via remote play, it's been bothering me to have to leave a 178Watt idle power hog on all day just in CASE I want to run remote play.

@6: Yes, it's been like this for awhile. Some people leave their PS3 in remote mode when they leave the house so they can watch things via their PSP when they leave.

This is really cool... I love this advant grade tech stuff. Sony really did a good job of catering to the hardcore this generation, the PS3 is easily the most impressive piece of equipment out of the three game systems. To bad the market itself isn't driven by those who REALLY love games... oh well, I'm sure the general market will wake up once MGS4 and FFXIII come out.

@12: Just pray for EA and other money-grubbing companies to go bankrupt or get rocked with a scandal that leads to the board breaking up the company. That'll put an end to the paid-off exclusives and half-assed ports we're used to seeing this generation.
Oh and also pray for Treasure to reverse its colo-rectal inversion.

I'm happy they'll allow me to turn my system on via remote-play, but what about getting into the system when something else is running?
I'm thinking Folding@Homer here. I almost always leave my PS3 folding when I'm not there. I'd like to have my system folding, remote-play in, then leave it folding when I'm done. It's the least I can do for Alzheimer sufferers :-)

@ PS3fanboy...why don't we have the ever-useful features that Joystiq have on their forums, such as voting, avatars, and replies?

@15 Maybe joystick doesn't want to compete against itself?
OnTopic: If they really go hard with this remote play stuff I guess I'll have to pick up a slim, because my psp is stuck at 3.11 with the dreaded DRNFFFFFFD7.
For the guys that actually use remote play from outside their house: what's the quality difference at home vs. abroad? What kind of internet connect do you have and what is your upload bandwidth?
The reason I ask is I only have ~512kbps upload, which i don't think is enough to handle any kind of video stream. When i'm using remote play to watch stuff while I fall asleep i've noticed the bit rate is way over a mbps.
Any thoughts?
