Next Generation got ahold of Infinity Ward president Grant Collier to talk about their upcoming release, Call of Duty 4. Some topics of discussion include an emphasis on fully fleshing out the multiplayer experience, the change of scenery from WWII to modern times, and the reworking of the flow of the game. But loyal CoD fans need not worry that the changes to the franchise have left the hardcore behind. Collier reassures that "for us it's all about opening doors and we're not taking anything away, we're just adding".
However, the Infinity Ward president does admit that opening doors to the Sony's inner workings has been a bit tougher. While Collier can claim a close relationship with the people at Microsoft, he cannot say the same about Sony. "I would really like to have that level of relationship with Sony. We're really pushing for that and it's a personal goal of mine to get there but I think there's very few companies that have that level of relationship with Sony. After we come out with CoD4 I hope that we'll be one of them"
Finally, when asked whether he was worried about competition from other first-person shooters, Collier welcomes the challenge. He also notes that because of the November 5th release date, "on PS3 we're number one"

After playing the demo on 360, Sony needs to be kissing Infinity Ward's a**. Until Killzone2 arrives, there isn't another shooter that is even worth mentioning.
I hope this doesn't get pushed back into neverland like the last couple multiplatform shooters.

Thats one of the things I like about sony, is games like COD4 mean shit to them. Sony unlike Microsoft dont rely on third party games that much to sell consoles thats probably why they dont care about just another FPS from a third party. COD4 to me looks overrated to the max and would look ten times better if it was made with Cell and blu-ray in mind.

Did any of you really read the article? I first thought it was because of how game development works at Sony, but the only thing he could think of against Sony was the following:
"With Microsoft we’ve got the advantage of them being an American company so our level of accessibility to them is much better than Sony. I’m not disparaging Sony in any way, but it’s just that they [Microsoft] speak English, we speak English."
So the advantage of Microsoft is just that they have been around longer, are located closer, and natively speaks English. Not really the best arguments for "shaky relations". I think the title needs to be renamed and this part need to be inserted in there, cause this article goes for the shock more than actual news.

This game has been getting very favorable attention, and hopefully it's not like the favorable attention typical of places like IGN (before release: "We love you!" after release: "We hate you!").
I'm sure that Sony is aware of the critical position of this work, and if the programming holds up, like it appears to be, this company can provide good ps3 visibility and representation, something Sony is aware of.
What Collier's talking about is just logistics, and his attitude, and frame of mind, and product quality will get them in... it is less typical for Sony to be 'close' to 3rd parties, but like all these things, if you prove your mettle, then we want you on the team, and I'm sure Sony can take steps to help bring this about.

If you'd bothered to read the article, you'd realize they're not getting it, and neither are we. Super Turbo HD Freestyle Remix Edition XX Slash Trilogy II is the only thing we're going to see for the forseeable future.

How wrong you are Sir.
It will run on 60FPS on the PS3 version too, and is supposedly coming across very well on the PS3 version. A dev posted on their forums about this news.

Come on Sony ...... COD4 Looks FREAKIN SWEET! hopefully it will play just as good. After reading some reviews from people in the beta on the xbox version there is NO reason to believe it wont. SONY NEEDS TO HELP INFINITY WARD SO THAT THIS GAME OR THE NEXT ONE CAN REALLY BE ALL IT CAN BE!(on the PS3)
i personally cant wait for this game and will get it on day 1.

Brutal title for this post. Totally inflammatory. If you read the article, IW just says that they want to be considered special by Sony (I suppose like Rockstar, Insomniac, etc). And they are working to achieve that relationship. It also mentions the language barrier, etc.
Nowhere does it state that things are uncomfortable, with them. 'On shaky ground' suggests that their relationship in jeopardy, or hostile.
Kind of the last spin I would expect this site to have.
w/r/t to the act
In defense of Sony: IW has made some very good games. But I think COD4 is likely to be their first AAA title. I don't see anyone in Sony's special stable that makes good games. Only companies that make AAA title. Just my opinion.

@17
he means that on the 360 they will be competing Halo3 and the PC has Crysis. PS3 in his opinion doesnt have any AAA titles so they will find their way to the top.
