At Leipzig's Konami booth, Hideo Kojima made a little presentation and hinted at a couple of interesting things he's been tossing around in his mind for
Metal Gear Solid 4. After the big trailer finally played (it had trouble the other day due to some technical errors), a rabid fan asked Kojima about the opening and closing tracks for the game. Kojima, not quite sure what the person was asking, shot out a tease answer anyway, "I almost slipped, but there might be a special feature where maybe you can play your own favorite tunes."
Now, we're about 85% sure that he meant an option to play all the tracks from the game would be unlockable, but he did say our
own favorite tunes. Since Kojima has a lot of fun making his games, who's to say Snake won't come across an MP3 Player on his journey that just so happens to be full of your favorite songs? Snake can rock out while hiding in a barrel, we guess. What do you guys think? Misinterpretation, or a hint at things to come?

Maybe they could pull off what I think would be the best custom soundtrack option possible, which neither 360 or PS3 does:
You go into an options screen and select a set of songs for different environments (Scary, sad, action) and it plays them as appropriate. That way, it uses your songs, but in a more intelligent way than just rolling through a list.
...Of course, you could pick them as appropriately or inappropriately as you wanted, if you wanted to do that. (Benny Hill theme for sad moments. Always funny, all the time.)
I have long desired the option to have goofy banjo escape music start up whenever Master Chief jumps into a warthog, but I'd probably pick a serious set of tracks for something like MGS4.
I would love for the PS3 to roll out something like that first.

Soundtracks are a great feature, but why would you want this in MGS4? On the 360 the custom music overdubs the speech to where you can't hear it, the sense of sound is necessary in a stealth game, and the MGS games have all had really nice music scores. Bring on the soundtracks PLEASE, but I won't use them in this game.

MGS4 doesn't need custom soundtracks par se...but i would like the feature. especially if its like he finds an mp3 player or something like that. i still remember on the first MGS on the ps1 people calling Konami about the during the boss fight with Psycho Mantis it would cut out and say "Video" on the screen...closer look and it really said "Hideo"...it actually almost got me cuz my rca tv had a similar looking text when it said video. really enjoyed that! and the digital camera!

I'm with #4 on this one. If any game should lock you into its soundtrack, it's MGS4.

I bet its like you said, you find an MP3 player (much like the Digi cam in the other titles). That way its purely an optional thing. It would be cool if thats the case.
