During Sony's press conference at the Leipzig Game Convention, the boss of Sony Europe David Reeve detailed sales numbers on a handful of key PSN titles. Leading the pack was Tekken 5 with 103k sold, followed up by flOw with 47k sold. The really interesting thing though is that Super Rub-a-dub outsold Calling all Cars!, 34k to 31k. It's pretty bad when David Jaffe's baby can't even outsell one of the worst reviewed titles on the PSN.
We contacted David Karraker from SCEA who clarified that these numbers were just for Europe, which makes some sense since Calling all Cars! hasn't been out over there as long as it's been out in America. Still, it's got to be a disappointment for Jaffe that even after all the publicity, attention and (generally) good reviews for Calling all Cars!, it still gets beaten by an over-grown tech demo. Oh well there's always next time!

I still don't know why Super Rub-A-Dub got such bad reviews. It's a very fun game, and is probably the most played ps3 game I have (Super Stardust HD being second). Also is the cause of the most screaming from some of the girls that play it ("OH NO THE DUCKYS FELL DOWN!! NO, DON'T EAT THE DUCKY!"). The cuteness factor combined with the novelty of the motion controls makes it the closest the PS3 comes to Wii Sports.
I can't explain why I never got into Calling All Cars... I suppose it'd be better if I played against humans, but I only have one controller, and I despise online games (yes, I have broadband).

CaC has alot of fun potential..but nobody plays it. I tried to join an online game last weekend (Saturday evening) and there was not one single game being hosted online. What a shame.

Based on this news, Jaffe announces his next game. Here's the banner:

Heres my reasoning why this happened
Super rub a dub had a 5 level demo that I still play.
Calling all cars did not have a demo.
Isn't super rub a dub also cheaper?

Agree. I didn't get CaC till it went on sale and even then with no local friends and lack of online games it gets rather boring.
At least with the ducks I can talk my girlfriend into playing, for a while that is.

I'm sure the lower price of rub-a-dub and the fact that cac has no demo to try played a big part in the sales numbers.

yah, my fiancee LOVES rub a dub... We ended up getting the damn Gold Duck, that was torturous :)
she won't play Calling all Cars, but most of my mates like it, great fun, would love to play with 4 controllers (have 2 but waiting for more info on the new ones before shelling out more money)

The fact that Super Rub A Dub has been out longer in the EU should be a factor too.

I actually liked Super Rub A Dub (is it really called that?)
I like the physics.
Now what I would like to see next is a classic arcade game with some physics like this, say Defender, or Moon Patrol or (not Pac Man), Donkey Kong? Can we do that?
Oh, wait. That's not our franchise.

I just now thought of it!
What if the Wii came out with some versions of several popular games but featuring 'physics'.
I know, the Wii has less firepower, but if you keep it 2d, I'm sure it would be fine.
I mean, wow, playing Donkey Kong again with a new physics system...
(Can Nintendo also possibly buy the rights to Jungle Hunt? Please?)
