According to the BBC, a new peripheral will be announced at Leipzig "that will allow the recording and playback of digital TV" on the PS3. This isn't news for those that remember previous statements that said they're going "to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder."The Sony keynote is just moments away -- stay tuned for what will undoubtedly be some interesting fireworks we'll be able to share with you.

Oh, i would love for the digital cable to run through my PS3, and maybe be scaled with the PS3's superb scaler..
Does anyone know if there will be a live video feed from this press conference anywhere?

Sounds great. I just hope that, if they do release a tuner, it isn't lacking in features, the menu system is great, and that it's for all territories. I also hope they integrate it into the XMB rather than releasing it with special software. The recordings should be able to playback on any device too, not just your PS3.
On the hardware side it'd be great if they included two coaxial in ports (one analog, one digital), a CableCARD port, Component, Composite, and S-Video in.
On the software side (some semi-hardware I suppose) it'd be great if the PS3 would wake-up and shut down when it's time to record and finished recording. Wake on Lan would be good too, but somewhat unnecessary unless you were going to add a program via Remote Play at the last minute.

I'd very much like to know why the US isn't getting anything like this (something mentioned in the MTV interview)... granted, I'd never use it since I don't watch TV, and if I did, I wouldn't want to interrupt my gaming so the ps3 could record some shows.
I think I'd be happy with a movie and TV download/streaming service.

so would this make it compatible with an HD-ready tv (no tuner)?

Already have a tivo--how about in game XMB already? It's a bitch to have to exit a game to chat to someone.

@6. Stopping Downloads would be a good reason to use the XMB.... 600Mb wasted by pulling the plug...

I think it's DVB-T (Freeview) and not cable. The conference is in Germany, and nearly all EU-contries use DVB-T much.
