Supposedly, the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will support DualShock 3 -- at least according to a NeoGAF retelling of Japanese publication Dengeki PlayStation. This has sparked discussion that the controller featured on the official GT5 website (pictured above) is actually a DualShock 3, not a Sixaxis. But honestly, we all expect the rumble-enabled PS3 controller to look identical to our current Sixaxis controller. A silhouette won't tell us much.
Hopefully, we'll find out something at Leipzig later today.

As long as they have rumble in the new logitech steering wheel then I am happy.
But I would rather have rumble for Motorstorm than for GT5. Gran Turismo is a smooth racing experience while Motorstorm is bumpy and jittery and off the wall...hence the need for rumble.

Is rumble really that big a deal? I honestly haven't missed it at all.

ps3 fanboys just deny how important rumble is because they know its one of their consoles weaknesses.
When they get their rumble back on the ps3 suddenly it'll be of the utmost importance to them.

Perhaps people wouldn't miss the rumble so much if the sixaxis that replaces it was actually worth a damn. I have yet to see it used for any game in a significant way and the early reports for Lair is that the sixaxis controls are effectively broken.

I just want rumble back so I can play Rez without having to pull out my PS2. It would have also been handy to add the functionality to Genji, such as to find Essence of Amahagane. I happen to love rumble on fighting games.

@Sam, xobox 360 fanboys stay on this blog because they know how weak their console is. They talk up the 360 and bash the PS3 but as soon as they get the RROD, they curse the day they ever bought the damn thing.
Note: You're an idiot.

i'm interested in the kind of market spin Sony's going to have to put on the new controller so that early adopters (like myself) don't feel like they got shafted.

@8 What makes you think that they will give a fuck? They have already shafted us early adopters by lowering the price $100 and giving away 5 free blurays with each purchase. Between that and the lack of content I honestly wish I had waited to purchase the PS3. At least they are finally getting around to releasing some worthwhile games.

Anyone hear if there are gonna be patches for the games before the new controller? My guess is firmware 2.0 Leipzig, Dualshock3 TGS.

First off- Alex, early adopters always get screwed! I hate it when you guys complain. Consoles change, they get better and cheaper. The point of early adopting is to be able to say "I got it and you don't" to your friends.
Second- This blog and other sources have said that the new "rumble" may be a new and improved rumble (rumble 2.0) that will be much more than just shaking the controller. If thats true, it would be easy to spin their earlier statement about rumble being "last gen." Simple.
Third- I wish they would just come out with the darn thing already.

@9, have you seen the Blu-Ray discs they are giving away? You seriously aren't missing much. They honestly aren't worth the time it'll take me to take the UPC off the box and send it in.

Rumble is a big deal; coming from a 360, my PS3 controller feels like a kid's toy. Too small and light, I'm constantly adjusting the way I hold it just to reach the buttons..
Any improvements surely welcomed.

I've only really used the Sixaxis in one game, and that was Resistance and I loved it. I almost crapped myself when something jumped on my face and I shock the pad outta reflex. I've not used it for anything else.
As for rumble, I've not missed it but for the most part I'm a PC Gamer although I've had consoles since the early Sega/Nintendo days.

The only thing I would ever care to have rumble on is the GT driving series, because the feedback is so good for where your tires are, and how the car feels. I've generally turned it off for everything else.

@ 15 apparently you didn't read your own post, how fucking stupid are you?
he talked about ps3 and then you started slamming 360 fans and proceeded to call him an idiot. you wouldn't have brought up 360 if you wernt inferring him as a fanboy.
what he said was 100% true and i don't recall him saying 360 fanboys didn't act similarly.
fact is ps3 hardcore fans will say rumble isnt needed, but once they actually have it they will be happy. neither side likes to complain so as not to be made fun of the other.
stop being a living stereotype

@11 deweather: I agree. Especially with your comment about just bringing it out already.
I haven't really missed the controller rumbling all that much. First time playing Resistance when I 1st got my PS3 was awkward not feeling any vibration feedback. But after awhile, you get used to the absence of it. But I wouldn't mind having some form of rumble back.
