Warhawk finally dated for Europe

ThreeSpeech has the scoop on the European release dates for Warhawk. We have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the downloadable version will be available on the same day as in America. The 28th of August. The bad news is that the retail version won't be available until the 21st of September.

Yes, we know. The retail version is out on August 28th in America. That's a week today, for those of you with your head in the clouds. But where's ours? Over three weeks late, that's where. We're not particularly impressed. This isn't the first time Europe has been shafted like this. The bizarre thing is that the game will be available via download. Taunting those of us who are waiting for the cheap-as-free Bluetooth headset. Oh well, looks like another title we'll have to import.

1. Yeah, I was just going to say "why not just import it?" Kinda wonder why this is happening, though? Is it SCEE or the EU's red tape? =/ Sucks to be European this year, I guess... =(

2. Sucks to be european ANY year in the gaming industry.

We've always been 3rd rate citizens.

Yes i realise that there are places even worse off than Europe...but they're also substantially smaller and poorer than Europe.

Seriously, the gaming industry needs to stop going with the standard "oh and europe can get it sometime....i dunno 3-4 months sound good?" attitude and start trying to plan for worldwide release dates.

3. how is this game going to be fun? what do you do? im only gettin it for the headset. the game is just something i can have to add to the game library

4. i don't have the patience, will have to download!

plus i am lazy and don't like getting up to change game discs :-)

and my damn headset is carking it - i can hear static no matter how close i am to the ps3 / phone, it was such a good one too. :( one of the final Siemens mobile products.

oh well, will have a look for the Jabra and buy separately, does anyone know the model number?

5. I've pre-ordered my copy from Play.com - £32.99 (£7 off the SRP) making the headset effectively priced at £13!!

6. Another week!?

I walked into GAME yesterday at 5PM and asked... and I got told September 14...

Now all we need is to be able to buy a retail copy of WarHawk and download the game from the store :) *wink wink*

7. @6 Phil
Can you explain this course of action please as it sounds like you're going to be spending a lot more money than you would need to?

8. The retail version actually works out to be the same price if you buy the headset in addition to the PSN version of the game. It will be £20 on the store and the included headset can be found for £12 on Amazon, whereas the retail version is currently being sold for £32.

9. What I meant was, in the case of WarHawk where you seem to be able to download it nearly a month before retail... if you preorder it (or similar games that do this?) you should get a coupon to download it..

Seemed like a really good idea when I wrote... now I'm not so sure.

Not that downloading a game is a very achievable thing for to do... *shakes fist at ISP*

10. Seems like europe is gunna lose out on a lot of money due to imports.
Downloading not very achievable? if your connection is too slow to download the game then its definitely too slow to play warhawk

11. I am certain that its because of the wireless headset, it must be certified on a per region basis, and I am sure the EU doesn't just put a stamp on it because the US did. Be thankful its only 3 weeks delayed.

12. @10
I think you've raised a point there regarding potential market size. Not only is the PS3 market pretty new and comparatively small (next to the PS2), I'm wondering about the number of those PS3 owners who actually connect their PS3 to the internet (I'm on-line with it every day!). My line of thought brings me to the point of wondering how much of a gamble it is to create a single platform (PS3), on-line-only game.

13. Euros really got the short end of the stick after the C64/Amiga days. Back then everything was coded in Europe so they got everything first (Turrican, Creatures, etc.). Now Japan or the US makes most of the games and worldwide releases seem like an afterthought. I would like to know why it's so hard to release a game in multiple territories.

14. I have no issues with my raw speed and playing online games etc.... I have the problem with downloading them in that I morally can't - if I did, I'd be netless... which I can't bare to be.

Hail to Download Limits!

(I get around that by taking my PS3 to work for a "night" leave it downloading what I want in exchange a few hours of play time)
