This week we get a nice variety of Blu-ray movies hitting the shelves. We have the German post-WWII thriller, The Lives of Others, the Beethoven love story Immortal Beloved, Perfect Stranger a high tech sex thriller with Halle Barry and Bruce Willis, and Van Wilder, a classic a teenager sex comedy with Ryan Reynolds. Here's the official release list: The Lives of Others is a big critic favorite, while Van Wilder is a big fan favorite. Both are great, but hit rather different ends of the genre. Which side do you fall on, tense social intrigue or boobie jokes?

Actually, "The Lives of Others" is not a WWII triller but a post WWII movie about the secret service of the former East Germany.

Crap release week? The Lives of Others was a really good movie! Ulrich Muhe (the bald guy) died of stomach cancer recently; he did a great performance.

I think The Lives of Others should be given more attention in geek circles. We tend to be concerned over things like illegal wiretapping, total surveillance, etc., and this is a really good movie describing what it was actually like to live in such a place. In other words, it's a cautionary tale.
Van Wilder's also cool....
