Want to use something other than the PS3 controller to control movies on your system? Well, you can pick up Nyko's "Blu Wave" remote for a shockingly low $10 from amazon.com. However, there's one crucial flaw that prevents it from being an all-around great deal: the lack of a power button. You can, as some have done, use the RF adapter to teach other universal remotes (such as the Harmony) to interface with the PS3. Or, you can go for Sony's more expensive, but more elegant solution for $25.[Via CAG]

The lack of a power button? :D
What use is it then, you still need the controller to turn it on. :/

Well, I don't get those 3rd party accessories. They are usually not too far off the price of a original accessory, but look, feel and play different.
I must agree though that I am missing a IR port on my PS3 which I can use with my universal remote. I could use the old IR adapter for the PS2 from Sony with one of the PS2 controller adapters, but this looks just terrible.
Yea, I know the additional IR adapter would have add another dollar to the already high production cost of the PS3 ;-(

I'm happy with the SIXAXIS as the remote...it's good enough for me. I'm proud to spend less as little money as possible.

By using my SIXAXIS, I reduce clutter. I save money. And all it takes is a little more work, which is good exercise after all. And I feel proud to spend as little money as possible. And less guilty too.

I think I may get one of these. I already bought the Sony Bluetooth remote but it's another damn remote. If I get this thing then go buy a Logitech Harmony, I can cut my remotes down to one. That's a win.

I have yet to purchase a remote for the PS3. I was planning to get Sony's more expensive, yet elegant remote when I do decide to go out and get one though.
Funny thing is, I bought Sony's remote for the PS2 when it first was available, but hardly used it because I was using a separate stand-alone dvd player whenever I watched any movies. But with the PS3, I have been using it alot more to watch movies then I was with the PS2 (Blu-ray player plays a big part) but I have yet to get a remote for the PS3. Just been using the controller as of now.

I am fine with the Sony one - I just wish some buttons would glow or would light up.

The point is actually the dongle, not the remote itself. Anyone who owns a Universal Remote -- like the Philips Pronto -- can't use it with the PS3 because it's IR based. The Nyko's dongle receives an IR signal, making the Universal remote usable.
On Amazon it's NOT $10.00, but $19.99.

Correction on my post. On August 19th, it was $9.99, but is no longer that price since it was only good for... August 19th.
Now it's back to its original price of $19.99.

I'll stick with my Controller, I've no need to add to the clutter especially a butt ugly USB attachement.
