If you've been wondering if Level 5 is up to anything other than getting themselves knee-deep in
White Knight Story programming code, we've got some good news for you today. Seems a preliminary list of RPG's to show at the Tokyo Game Show
compiled by RPGFan denotes a few Level 5 titles, one of which has yet to claim a title of its own. The interesting thing is the description released in the game listing: "set to create a new genre". That's pretty ambitious.
What could this game be? What platform will it land on? We don't have any answers yet, but since Level 5 has a strong connection with Sony and a lot of their time is going into
White Knight Story, we don't think it'll be another PS3 title, rather, a PSP title. Yeah, it's not as exciting that way, but do you really think a company would really want to work on two PS3 titles at once? Leave us your thoughts, hypotheses, or guesses!

It could theoretically be better to have another PS3 title. Because if its somewhat similar, you could re-use a lot of components, like the engines they use, the textures, libraries, any sorta complicated architecturial thing really.
In any case, in response to the question "What could this game be?"
I think it'll be a role playing real-time strategy platforming puzzle solving massively multiplayer non-linear story telling third person with integrated party style yet first person shooter-esque ... game =).
Or... it could be Black Story Knight.

You're both quite right, however those companies have something Level 5 doesn't... manpower. It takes a lot of cash to develop one game on a new system and L5 isn't the biggest one out there.
I think Dahk is on the right track, since after the R&D for the first title, any future ones will be cheaper to develop. The tools are there, but would L5 benefit by spreading themselves thin across a relatively new platform? ...I'd like 'em to keep things at 1080p, 60fps and I'm worried that wouldn't happen if they worked on two PS3 games at once.

well, whoever WROTE the article fails to mention that level 5 is not ONLY working on white knight story but has just finished with a few ds games including finishing up on the now ds-exclusive Dragon Quest 9, but also they already HAVE a psp game out called jeanne d'arc, a tactics rpg(the first level 5 has done) based loosely around the events in the life of joan of arc.
and to "the showstopper" every single one of the companies you mentioned were publishers, NOT developers, like level 5. SCEA is publishing white knight story, as they did the dark cloud series and rogue galaxy, but level 5 could be making a wii game for all we know. most developers only work on one game at a time unless they are a bigger team and can handle multiple projects at once.
either way, anything new from level 5 is always a good thing

I'm all for innovating and what not, but I am seriously jonesing for some DARK CLOUD 3 and some ROGUE GALAXY 2. I would much rather get WKS, then DC3 and RG2, and THEN whatever game they say will make a new genre.
Oh, and as for you guys saying they don't have manpower, I think you mean AVAILABLE manpower. They're working on WKS, Jeanne D'Arc, and DQIX all at once- as well as whatever this new game is, so I don't think it really matters to them how many projects they are juggling.
Remember a while back when it was "revealed" that SquareEnix outsources almost all their actual development manpower to some other company? As well as a bunch of other companies? It's not an uncommon practice, and with the homers that Level-5 has been hitting the last few years as well as their new buddy SE I would imagine they have plenty of cash to outsource manpower to work on multiple games at once.
Here's hoping whatever it is comes to PS3.

I think Level 5 is making a new game on non-sony platform - wouldnt be suprised if it is 360. It is making something for Sony and Nintendo already and I doubt it will make a new PS3 game since they probably want to wait and see how the sales of White knight goes. As for 360, as long as they get dough they will do it. They may jump on the Wii hype wagon too...

I hope the game is the rebirth of True Fantasy Live Online. That game was canceled on the Xbox because Microsoft and Level 5 could not get along.
So seeing as Level 5 and Sony have a nice partnership I could see the game coming back but this time being a PS3 game instead.
Plus IGN says they think the game will come back to life.

So I really hope it is this game. I for one think it would be a great game if it could come out on the PS3.

Well if any developer can create a new genre, Level-5 can.

@13 nope there will be a KHIII but the next wont be it. that final trailer is refering to the spin off that going to be on the PSP sort of like chain of memories on the gameboy sp. KHIII is still there trustme ive been doing research on everything KH related as lame as that may be. FFVII remake is not in development but its is in consideration of square to actually do it some where down the line just not in the near future
