In a recent Reuters interview, Sony president Ryoji Chubachi said, "we've announced the price cut in the US and have no additional plans beyond that at this time." Um, okay. They DID just announce the PS3 price cut two weeks ago. Dropping the price again so soon would be quite silly (at least, from a business standpoint). Or, and this is just a crazy theory of ours, maybe he is pre-announcing another price cut, by way of saying there isn't one, when it's already planned, right around the upcoming holiday season. Stranger things have happened, but looking back at all the price cut denials before the announcement of the $100 price cut before E3 certainly makes it seem all the more plausible.

I am slightly confused. Why would they already be planning a price cut they just had one?
Sony you are being stupid again right up to the top.

My guess would be that they are not considering a $100 price cut on the $600 80gig SKU an "additional price cut".
I still expect that the new 80gig SKU will drop to $500 during the holidays after the 60gig SKU sells out.

I was under the impression his statements referred to territories outside the US.

They are not, hence the statement by the President. PS3fanboy, please stop with the over dramatic headlines -- Its getting old. Like a previous poster mentioned before, I also feel like I'm reading a xboxfanboy website.

"Sony Says It Has No Plan to Cut PlayStation Prices Outside U.S.
By Kiyori Ueno and Stuart Biggs
July 27 (Bloomberg) -- Sony Corp., the world's largest game- console maker, isn't planning to lower its PlayStation 3 prices in Asia or Europe after cutting prices of the machines by 17 percent this month in the U.S., President Ryoji Chubachi said.
The company doesn't plan to cut prices ``at this point,'' Chubachi said today in an interview in Shizuoka, where Japan's Keidanren business lobby is holding a two-day forum. ``About the future, no comment,'' he said."

Yeah, Sony president says no more PS3 price cuts for the US UNTIL THE 80gig DROPS TO $500 AROUND XMAS TIME... Stupid article, explains/claims nothing new. Just another excuse to stir up shit.

What the fuck, there wasn't a price cut anyways! Sony had a clearance sale, and now they are saying that they won't take that a step further. This was a pointless article.

M$ did annouce one but its a really a poor attempt at a price cut. just take $50 off every system. there trying to retain all the profit they made off the software because of the a 33% failure rate and that extended warrenty must be starting to eat away at the hardware profits and into the software. This is what you get for releasing your system a year earlyer knowing that theres hardware problems.

Predictions:
$500 price becomes permanent in September
PS3+GTA4 bundle for $500 in October
Holiday bundle in November: PS3 + 2 great games for $500
If they can get good sales using this strategy then maybe they can afford to cut the price to $400 in 2008.

- "Microsoft makes bet: Sony will unveil $399 PS3 this year"
Remember that post? Well, if the PS3 sells well, one way for MS to make people hesitate is by saying stuff like this. And therefore the SONY guy has to kill that roumour before it effects the sales..
thats all there is.. a smart move by Sony.
