Game Informer has posted a great post-E3 interview with Phil Harrison where he talks about Trophies, Sony's response to Gamer Scores, and the ever popular GT 5 Prologue. For GT 5 Prologue, Phil clarified that unlike GT HD, this will be a full game with a full feature set. While he wasn't willing to go into specifics at the number of tracks and cars that will be available in the game when it is released later this year, he indicated that it won't be nearly as stripped down as GT HD and will actually represent what GT 5 will be like.
When it came to Trophies, he mentioned that they are actively looking at creating 'retro-Trophies' for older games like Resistance and Motorstorm. It wasn't clear if this would mean you would have to replay the games to get the Trophies, or if they would be automatically awarded based on your past performance -- either way it's very cool to hear Sony is working on this. This is something fans have been asking for since they heard about Sony's Trophy idea and is a pretty exciting idea.
Phil also (kind of) talked about their response to Microsoft's bizarrely popular Gamer Scores. He danced around the question a bit, clearly not wanting to reveal too much information but he did give a hint that they're going to avoid a point based system. It's going to be interesting to see how they're able to great a non-point system -- maybe they'll reward you with a number of Loco Rocos depending on your score!

Sorry, Gamer Scores are so 360. Trophies to display in Home should be enough. Just deliver on some exclusives, keep online free and give me some 2.00 firmware and I'll be happy, Sony.

I don't like the whole Gamerscore or even trophy idea.

Gamerscores keep people playing games that are not fun just for points.

They obviously won't be called Gamer Scores, and they probably will have different/other functionalities as well.
As for everything that's been announced, can't wait! (I hope Sony doesn't make me wait... :|)

I have an idea if Sony does implement trophies. Lets say you beat Lair you can gain access to the Lair Lounge in Home. Still don't like the idea but that would be cool.

I think Achievements are a good thing for games so trophies have potential I see achievements like merit badges you get them for doing something and it can add game play via challenges that you might not normally do. These challenges vary in difficulty but since there is a challenge it give you a goal to achieve pushing the game past oh I already beat it much like fighting for High score can be but more accessible.
That said I would like to see Sony do a score/rating system like gamer-score but if they wanted to be different make it a true gamer score so base the value on how many people have attained a trophy(I personally feel the MS Gamerscore is too easy to pad with games like King Kong and TMNT). And offer special trophies that can only be obtained at special promotional contest tournaments etc. It would be cool to log on and have a challenge to reach so many points in super stardust hd withing a time limit and win a trophy for your participation maybe even special trophies for the top scores.

The trophies will be meaningless if you can just download a save file and collect your prize.

Of course nobody likes the gamerscore or achievements. Had it been on the PS3 first, they would be the next best thing since sliced bread. Sad. Sad.

Its good that Sony arent having a point based system, because that sort of makes playing games tun into a chore to get more points.
Just look at XBL and how many people play horrible games just to get points

A retarded interview from question one. The first question the interviewer asks is "what are the impressions from your speech?". That's like me telling you a story, then you ask me, "so, how did you like the story?".
Also a few questions down, Harrison says that Motorstorm has a ton of downloadable content. O RLY? Where? We got a time attack update and a bug fix.
This is my favorite exchange between the two and pretty much sums it up:
"GI: But $500 is still quite a bit of money.
Harrison: The PS3 is quite a bit of machine. There’s a lot you get for your money. People were camping out in the streets to buy a $500 phone. "

I know people who have Xbox 360's and hate the gamer score/achievements system. I am not just saying this because I have a PS3 its my honest opinion.
There are people who don't like Home that have a PS3 and people that don't like Halo that have a 360. Just because you are drawn to different products doesn't mean you have to follow that product blindly.
