There was a rumble option in the game's options screen. John asked the folks showcasing the game if the rumble feature would exist in the final product for the PS3 and they answered yes. DiRT is prepared to take advantage of the new rumble feature coming to the Sixaxis controller in a matter of months. Isn't that exciting? The controller isn't out yet, but game developers are already prepared to offer the feature in their games. It's great news for all of us, especially those who really need to feel some vibrations in their hands. You know who you are!
[Thanks, John!]

Don't think this is too huge of a deal - though it is nice to have some confirmation that rumble exists and the specs have been locked down, and that there are likely developer versions. I'll bet that every first party game (and plenty of third party ones) will get updated to support rumble within a month of the controller coming out.

#4: It's for the SIXAXIS rumble too, not just the steering wheel. :)
Another great game for the PS3, I wonder where we'll get the money to buy all of them? (Warhawk, LittleBigPlanet, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, DiRT, Lair, Killzone 2, etc.)

Nope. Definitely a promo shot for Motorstorm. Though the color palatte is subdued so it tends to look more like DiRT.

I would have to say that it is designed around the ps2 wheels unless they said, "yes, the rumble feature will stay in, and it will be for the new rumble sixaxis."
I doubt that the developers have any inside information on a rumble controler being released in the near future.
It's even stated in a recent article posted here that they are intending to support the PS3 wheel - http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/12/dirt-for-the-ps3-looks-fantastic-compared-to-the-360/ .
With that combined with Sony stating that they don't have any plans, as of yet, to make a rumble controler, I would say it's safe to bet that this is prolly only for the wheel.

ummfada, the image no longer works. Got another link?
Chris, I don't care for rumble either - never really did. Though Crazy Taxi for the Dreamcast did a great job with it and had me thinking for a while that maybe I did care. For some people it seems to be a huge deal though, so if it helps PS3 sales, I'm all for it.

How can you say that??? You know the developers have got to have info on rumble so they can start putting it in their games before the controller comes out. It's called common sense!!!

tretorman. I believe Nick was saying he wasn't worried, because its already been stated in various articles that the graphics were on a higher level than the 360 version since their getting personal optimization tips and tricks from sony this time around. So for this article, it wasn't totally important.
I think if someone doesn't have a wheel, rumble is important, because especially in such a technical game, you NEED to understand your car, and know when its losing grip, when you're gaining grip, what kinda road you're running on, and little rumbles and "touchsenses" are what sorta defines that.
But as long as full force feedback is implemented on the logitech driving force pro, I don't mind at all =).

Yeah its probably for force feedback driving wheels... although it would be nice to think they're bringing us a rumble controller sometime soon.

THERE!!! are all of you happy now??? A RUMBLE controller will be here in the near future... In my opinion rumble is cool, but not that necessary and it hasn't been bothering me at all not having it in the present. Rumble is more of a gimmick that doesn't really add or take away from gameplay, which what really matters. Like I said a gimmick, a cool gimmick at that, but a gimmick none the less.

@Need4SpeedPR: This is kinda getting as bad as that Zapruder film! (You know - the one where JFK gets shot?) Now, look at frame 260, as you can see, the dev's thumb on the right stick goes back, and to the side... BACK and to the side... BACK... lol! =D

Gimmicky? I dunno man, I don't really like it for shooters, but in driving games it kinda lets you know how close you are to the edge of the road. It also lets you know how much that set of rounds that you are walking through is hurting in a shooter, and lets not forget how cool the Dual Shock was in Metal Gear when Psycho Mantis told you to put it down during his whole schpeel. Must have? Not really, but if I can get rumble for the same price, and an option in the games to turn it off, why hate on it. Besides, the new rumble could be sick. Speaking of which, they have to deliver on it now. I'm NOT expecting a dual shock rumble here. I wanna feel it promenently in the wings of the controller, and several different sensations at the same time. This shit needs to be cold as hell...its a make or break feature for some, especially if you real want people to cross over from their 360s...
