Coming from a recent interview with Phil Harrison,
1up was curious why Sony was letting exclusive downloadable content for
Grand Theft Auto IV slip through their fingers. It seems that, perhaps, the PS3 will get their own content for the upcoming classic sandbox game. Phil responded thus: " ... we have a great relationship with Rockstar and we're actually working closely with them on a number of initiatives, so I do know some things that are going on, but I'm not able to share those with you now." Insert theories here.
If we can think of anything, we'd imagine that Sony is trying to get the content for the 360 version over to the PS3 version either as standard Blu-ray extras on the game disc (so they aren't technically breaking the "exclusive downloadable content" clause or whatever), or that there is some more original material planned for the PS3 version down the road. What are your thoughts?
[Thanks, Ciaran!]

I bet that whatever additional content we get in game, it will be cool, but another cool thing will be the Playstation HOME extras that will come with GTA IV. Nobody has mentioned that.

Whatever happened to that theory that the $50 million spent on the content was really Microsoft saying, "hay, guys, remember Microsoft was good to you when you think about selling Rockstar ;)." So what happened to that theory?

I think it either has something to do with extra content, or Sony is trying to make sure that the first "episode"(read: expansion, much like HL2) will come to the PS3 first, or even exclusively.
Regardless of what Sony is cooking up, I don't believe the downloadable content will be exclusive to the 360. It will be about as exclusive to 360 as UT3/Haze will be to the PS3. I don't how much money M$ paid them. They said it themselves that it was to cover the costs of making the content, so it's not like it was an under the table thing for exclusivity.

Well if Microsoft is funding the content I assume they'd put an exclusivity clause on that content.
I assumed Harrison was talking about different games or projects with Rockstar... or just different content for the game.
Incentives? Maybe a bundle... I could see that being not a terrible idea.

Buying for exclusive extra content is stupid... what is the purpose of this?
A GTA fan without a console is going to have to decide with between a PS3/360. At launch the games are identical.. the 1st extra content pack doesnt come until March of next.. then, you still have to BUY it. MS isnt going to give it to you for free.
So, what advantage are they getting for their $50 million? So, they can stick a sticker on it say "Extra content you can buy in 5 months!"...
They should have given Rockstar $100 million to make it enirely exclusive... and actually move consoles.

There isnt going to be anything He just said to get everyone hyped (they have a habit of doing thing like this). Its basicly like this:
They ask him about GTA4
A1: Uhhhh it wont have any exclusive content
A2: We are working closely with Rockstar but Im not allowed to tell you anything
Which one would you pick obviously Answer 2. Basically He couldnt just say "Yeah... it wont get any exclusive content"
I dont really want addon missions anyway whats the point in playing if you cant beat it then run around with unlimited ammo killing everything which is my favorite thing by the way. Anyway I still get the game

I think this will pertain more closely to home trophies, wallpapers, etc. for home as well implementation of the new controller. Have any of you guys read the in depth info at immersion's website? Oh man, it's really deep and makes you wonder what Sony has up their sleeves. I also have a theory on this being why M$ is suing immersion, can anyone say next-gen rumble...

its not that the DLC costs 50 mil to make, its just that M$ will do anything to keep good things away from Sony

well this is the thing that gets my thinking. I want to get the PS3 version because I've always bought it and played it on PS2 but at the same time when march comes around I know i would have beaten it already and it'll be just sitting. So why not get the 360 version that in March i'll be able to dust it off and get some more joy out of it. If Sony doesnt say they have content for sure I'm just going to have to jump ship and get it for the 360. Holla!!!!!!

The interview from the GTIV game designers when quoted on the 360 DLC a few months back already mention in passing that "work was being done on DLC for PS3 as well." It just got passed over in all the 360 hype about the article.

what would be highly embarrasing for Microsoft (remember, GTA was first on Playstation!) is if SONY got Microsoft's "exclusive" content, included on the disc, or, and this is far more likely, exclusive SONY content on the disc, as opposed to having to pay for it, i am already springing $150 AU on a limited edition of GTAIV anyway, give us some extra contenet ;)

While we're on the topic of GTA IV, doesn't anyone else think that it's going to be delayed? It's sounding like they're SERIOUSLY behind. They pretty much have two months left and the demo they (briefly) showed at E3 didn't have weapons, voices or missions implemented. People have suggested that it's an early build and they're actually further along, but I'm doubtful.

i'd go with the pre-packaged extra's since that's the easiest route without there being too many issue's. and they could "blame" the fact the 360 didn't have it b/c it's on a DVD and you had to download the extra's instead

At one point I thought Rockstar had said both platforms would get their own exclusive content. Then again, Peter Moore made a pretty big point out of the 360 being the only place to get the "full Grand Theft Auto 4 experience", so that would sort of throw a wrench into that. I'm going to buy it for whichever console gets the best core experience, so that's that.
Same with a lot of other titles coming this fall; here's to buying a lot of ps3 versions.

This game is not getting delayed...It's the same act Rockstar pulls off every year they release a GTA game. Come out with trailers every month or so and get the public hot with anticipation. What was unusual was them being at E3. Which most of the time they never are. Rockstar likes to wait til the last second to really show the public what the game is about.

I'm sure I'd read that both systems would get their own exclusive content a few months back also, but contract and ideas change. Could be that there's some haggling going on about co-marketing and such.

the only content 360 is getting is the shit that wouldn't fit on the dvd. GTA4 is such a huge game they need blueray to fit all the data. So microsoft is making a big deal about having 'extra' content when all they are getting is the shit that their gimped console couldn't handle. The 50 mil was to keep R* from talking
