Sega Rally Revo was developed on the PS3 first -- and later ported to other systems

Though the PlayStation 3 is constantly maligned as being overly difficult to program for, it seems that more and more developers are coming out in support of it. Recently, Gamepro had a hands-on with Sega's Rally Revo and found out that the off-road racer was developed on the PS3 first -- and then ported over to other systems. This is in contrast to what Microsoft has recently said, but inline with Sega's previous efforts.

What this means for PS3 owners is that our version of Rally Revo will actually arrive on-time and with solid performance, something a bit of a rarity recently. According to GamePro, "the PS3 version had no visible "jaggies"...and believe us, we looked for them."

Between this, the just-released MotorStorm add-ons, and the upcoming DiRT, it seems like a good year to be an off-road enthusiast on the PS3. Which mud-flinger are you most excited for? You sticking with the classic MotorStorm madness or upgrading to some sexy DiRT and/or Rally Revo?

1. I'm waiting for DiRT since I bought my PS3. I suppose I'll pick up Rally Evo too if it comes out before DiRT.

Motorstorm is not worth MY money, sorry...

2. You must be joking! Motostorm is one of the most popular P3 games for a reason. It is great fun, great graphics and more.

3. Well of course they're going to start on the PS3, it's the hardest console to code games for, then they do the easy job of porting to other consoles, it saves time and means they can be released at a similar time

4. Ya know, when i rented it, i didn't much are for it. Rubber-band AI, tracks that became too hard to navigate. Didn't really find it all that enjoyable... And if popularity had anything to do with good, that would mean that Fantastic 4 is the best movie out.

5. Dirt's already out!........on.. the.. 360.. oops

6. I don't really agree the way SEGA developers diss the mud effects of Motorstorm. Worn out road does affect the handling, even if the visual effect is just a texture trick.

8. Hey 360 fanboys, let us know when you get Motorstorm ;)

Until then, enjoy your v-sync tearing.

9. You tell 'em Bored! Hahah...

I like dirt racing/rally games. It was my favorite addition to the GT series. GT3's Pike's Peak stages were always a lot of fun.

The only thing is Motorstorm is an exclusive and Dirt is multiplatform and PS3 owners have to wait till October for it and its already out on the 360. Also, Dirt has a career mode I don't think Motorstorm has one and you can't do the tracks in reverse in Motorstorm.

You comment in most articles here and talk the same crap. Why are you even here on this ps3 forum, you add nothing at all. So please, mods can we ban this muppet and make everyone's lives a little easier.

12. I hear the online blows for this game. Motorstorm is lacking in some departments, but the core of the game is fantastic.

13. I'm not a fan of DIRT's multi-player (basically a group time-attack) even if it is authentic.

I know this is going to sound trivial but for some reason I was really impressed by the way snow starts to clump up on the undercarriage of the cars in Sega Rally Revo. Weird how some things stick in your head.

Anyway, DIRT was clearly built first on the 360, so the PS3 version will probably be a shoddy, lazy port, so I'm more interested in Rally Revo.

14. I love Motorstorm, so I'll definitely have to check this out. I remember Sega making some damn fine rally games in it's day, so hopefully they still can. It looks pretty good overall, so it may be well worth checking out. The fact that it's leading on the ps3 just makes it that much more worth looking into. Got to support the developers that are doing right by us.

And Jason, I'm happy you can finally play an off-road racer. We've been doing it since March, so I don't think any of us care too much about waiting for a port that will come in October. Especially given that the reviews of it haven't been as good as Motorstorm's. Besides, if you'd played Motorstorm much, you'd know that several of the tracks just wouldn't work in reverse very well.
But, then again, actually knowing about something doesn't seem to stop any of your sort from complaining about it here, does it?

15. motorstorm is the better rally game. Dirt's multiplayer just sucks. it's nice to know that a game is done first on the PS3 for a change, but honestly if every game was created on the PS3 first chaos would ensue.

games would never come out because of developers lack of PS3 understanding. 360 is just better at pumping out games because it's easier to develop for (but good luck finding a working machine to play them on lol).

take Sony's precious Silent Hill 5. the developer, The Collective (yes the 'yankee' company mentioned in the recent EGM) can't work the PS3 dev kit. so for now it's being created solely for the 360. it's because they need something to show Konami with their progress and the PS3 is such a labyrinth it'd take 2X the work.

but then this could change like the PS2 did two years in it's life cycle. developers became used to it and started to tap regions not yet discovered in the PS2.

...

i just canceled out my own arguement. lol. but some of it applies to the present situation of the PS3-developer conundrum. to make their quota 360 is the way to go...for now.

16. @ JASON

yeah have fun with your Dirt with no real online multiplayer option unless you count ghosts, (did i mention motorstrom has acutal online multiplayer) and your overheating dieing systems which happens so much microsoft ran out of boxes just so you can send back your 400 dollar paperweight.

17. At first I wasn't excited about this, but having read the article, it will be interesting to see how it compares to Dirt. I don't mind waiting for a good port.

I went over to xbox360fanboy for the 2nd time in about 4 months.

I didn't post anything.

18. What does "jaggies" mean?

Posted at 7:14AM on Jun 23rd 2007 by Ferre

19. Well i own motorstorm, and i like it alot but i pretty pissed about the online setup. Dirt is shit. Also i will probably get sega rally revo. It looks like a good visual game and i love rally cars in motorstorm.
